With just six months to prepare for the program's first game, Whitehead has been instrumental in the recruitment of players, field preparation, equipment selection, soccer budget, camps and all other matters relating to UNI women's soccer. Whitehead has experience starting a team at the college level, having served as the initial head coach at the -Chattanooga the past four seasons. While at UTC, Whitehead started, designed, and implemented the program, including all aspects of training, recruiting, budget control, fundraising and public relations. Last season the Lady Mocs finished with a program-best for wins. "We're really excited," said Associate Athletic Director Kevin Buisman. "The search committee did an outstanding job, and it is to their credit that we were able to work fairly qu ickly through this process and attract somebody "People we talk to about of Linda's caliber. I think Linda brings outstanding credentials to the program, and it was an obvious bonus for women's soccer think we us to attract someone that had Division I experience plus the start-up experience that will allow our program to hit the ground running and get have a chance to be pretty our program out to a fast start." good pretty quickly." Prior to her time at UTC, Whitehead served as head women's soccer coach at Saint Mary's University in Halifax, NS, Canada for four --UN I Athletic Director Rick Hartzell years, where she was named 1992 Conference Coach of the Year after being named AUAA Champions. She was also head coach of the University of Western Ontario from 1990-91. Whitehead's experience on the playing field includes two years at the University of Western Ontario, where she was named captain and MVP of her team. She also was a four-time winner of the Ontario Championship during her time with the London (Ontario) Concorde women's soccer team . "People we talk to about women's soccer think we have a chance to be pretty good pretty quickly," said Athletic Director Rick Hartzell. "There are a lot of players around. We'll focus on the Waterloo-Cedar Falls area and try to build a program with some local roots. " Assistant Coach Catherine Broshears Catherine (Cat) Broshears brings a wealth of local experience to the Panther coaching staff, having served as Varsity Girls soccer coach at Waterloo West High from 1997-2000 and as an assistant coach at Cedar Falls High School from 1996-97. She also worked in the Academic Advising Office, where she supervised and served as a peer instructor for student-athletes. As a prep, Broshears played at Evansville's Reitz Memorial High School from 1986-89, where she was an Indiana state champ, two-time state runner-up, two-time captain and was awarded Indiana's Most Valuable Defensive Player in 1988.
