Usta Selects Austin, Texas As Site of Davis Cup by Bnp Paribas Quarterfinal Between the U.S No. 44-2011 USTA SELECTS AUSTIN, TEXAS AS SITE OF DAVIS CUP BY BNP PARIBAS QUARTERFINAL BETWEEN THE U.S. AND SPAIN Matches to be Played at Frank Erwin Center at the University of Texas, July 8-10 In the Hometown of Longtime U.S. Davis Cup Team Member Andy Roddick Jim Courier to Lead U.S. Davis Cup Team for the First Time in the U.S. World No. 1 Rafael Nadal Expected to Lead Spanish Team WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., March 23, 2011 – The USTA and U.S. Davis Cup Captain Jim Courier announced today that Austin, Texas has been selected as the site for the 2011 Davis Cup by BNP Paribas quarterfinal tie between the United States and Spain, July 8-10. The matches will be played at the Frank Erwin Center on The University of Texas at Austin campus. Austin is the hometown of U.S. Davis Cup stalwart Andy Roddick, who is second all-time in U.S. Davis Cup singles victories with 33. World No. 1 and nine-time Grand Slam singles champion Rafael Nadal said after Spain’s first round win over Belgium that he was committed to compete in the Davis Cup quarterfinal against the United States. This will be the first home tie for Courier, who is in his first year as U.S. Davis Cup Captain, and the first home tie for the U.S. since it defeated Switzerland in the 2009 first round in Birmingham, Ala. Since then the U.S. has played in four consecutive away ties. “We are excited to play in Austin as we have not hosted a tie in the U.S. for quite some time,” said Courier, who made his debut as captain in the United States’ first round win over Chile earlier this month. “We will be ready to use our crowd’s energy for what promises to be an exciting and challenging tie versus Spain.” The event is being organized, staged and promoted by the USTA. Tickets will go on sale to the general public the week of April 4th. For more information, fans can call the U.S. Davis Cup hotline at (888) 484-8782 or visit www.usta.com/daviscup. “Texas has long been the place where people wanted to live and work, and with more and more high-profile sporting events being staged here, it’s clear the Lone Star State is where people want to play too,” said Texas Governor Rick Perry, who took part in today’s official announcement at the Erwin Center. “This event will bring thousands of tennis fans to Central Texas, and give us another opportunity to show the world why Texas is such a fantastic place to visit, live and do business.” “Austin is honored to be chosen for the quarterfinal round of the Davis Cup,” says Matthew Payne, executive director of the Austin Sports Commission. “We're looking forward to hosting this world-class event and showcasing why Austin has recently garnered global recognition as an attractive sports destination.” This quarterfinal tie will mark the 10th matchup overall between the U.S. and Spain in Davis Cup competition. The U.S. leads the overall series 5-4, with its last victory against Spain coming in the 2007 quarterfinal in Winston-Salem, N.C. Nadal led Spain to a 4-1 victory in the last meeting between the two countries in the 2008 semifinal in Spain. The U.S. is 109-15 all-time in Davis Cup ties played at home. This will be the fifth Davis Cup tie played in the state of Texas and first since the U.S. defeated Spain, 3-1, in the 2002 quarterfinal at the Westside Tennis Club in Houston. The U.S. is 4-0 in Texas, including the 1992 Davis Cup Final in Ft. Worth when arguably the best U.S. Davis Cup team ever (Andre Agassi, Jim Courier and the doubles team of John McEnroe and Pete Sampras) defeated Switzerland 3-1. A 10-year-old Andy Roddick attended that match as a fan with his family. “I appreciate the USTA for even considering Austin,” said Roddick, after leading the United States to victory over Chile with two singles victories. “I think it’s been no secret that I have wanted it for a long time. It would be a dream come true to play at home.” Tennis Channel will present live daily coverage of the U.S. vs. Spain Davis Cup quarterfinal. • PRESS RELEASE 7 August 2014 Decision of the Davis Cup
PRESS RELEASE 7 August 2014 Decision of the Davis Cup Committee regarding venue for Israel v Argentina The ITF's Davis Cup Committee has unanimously agreed that, due to concerns arising from the military conflict between Israel and Hamas, it is not advisable at this time for Israel to host Argentina in their Davis Cup by BNP Paribas World Group play-off tie, scheduled for 12-14 September at the Nokia Arena in Tel Aviv. The Committee considered several factors in making their decision including a report from the ITF’s independent risk assessment firm, Control Risks, and decisions by other sports about competing in Israel. The Committee determined that, while the military conflict seemed to be slowing down, there was no certainty that this would be the case at the time of the tie that is due to take place in five weeks. The Committee felt that its first priority was to ensure the safety of the players, officials and the public and regretfully decided that the tie would not be held in Israel as originally scheduled. Israel now has the option to nominate a neutral venue. As per Davis Cup Regulations 27 e (i), (ii) (a), (ii) (b) (Page 13 of the 2014 Regulations): If Israel chooses to play in a neutral venue, the Israeli Tennis Association has five working days to file a full completed application to the Davis Cup Committee for approval. Israel will be considered the home nation for the purposes of the conduct and financial arrangements of this tie and shall have the right to choice of ball and the surface of the court.

  • PRESS RELEASE 12 August 2014 Decision Of
PRESS RELEASE 12 August 2014 Decision of the ITF Board of Directors regarding Davis Cup appeals The ITF Board of Directors, at a meeting held on Tuesday, 12 August 2014, considered appeals by the Belgian Tennis Federation and Israel Tennis Association against the decisions of the Davis Cup Committee regarding venues for upcoming ties. Decision of the ITF Board of Directors regarding Davis Cup venue for Ukraine v Belgium The ITF Board of Directors has upheld the appeal of the Belgian Tennis Federation against the decision of the Davis Cup Committee to confirm Kiev as the venue for the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas World Group play-off tie between Ukraine and Belgium on 12-14 September. The tie will no longer be played in Ukraine. The Board noted that the original decision by the Davis Cup Committee had not been unanimous; and that while the recent political unrest had occurred in eastern Ukraine, a disturbance in Kiev’s Independence Square as recently as last Thursday indicated that the security situation there was fluid. Ukraine now has the option to nominate a neutral venue. As per Davis Cup Regulations 27e (i), (ii) (a), (ii) (b): If Ukraine chooses to play in a neutral venue, the Ukrainian Tennis Federation has five working days to file a full completed application to the Davis Cup Committee for approval. Ukraine will be considered the home nation for the purposes of the conduct and financial arrangements of this tie and shall have the right to choice of ball and the surface of the court. If Ukraine does not choose to play in a neutral venue, the Davis Cup Committee has the right to decide that the tie be held on a neutral ground or in Belgium.

The Australians, however, will be wary of the threat posed by Belgium, which has won the nations’ 2 most recent meetings and must adapt quickly to clay having not played a Davis Cup tie on the surface since 2014. Around 100km away in Lille, France take on Serbia in a repeat of the 2010 Davis Cup Final. Serbia won on that occasion with Viktor Troicki winning in a decisive 5th rubber – but both Troicki and Novak Djokovic are missing this time round due to injuries.

  • Davis Cup and Fed Cup Selection Process
Davis Cup and Fed Cup Selection Process Team Captain Appointment. The Selection Committee for appointing the Team Captains for Fed Cup and Davis Cup will consist of three selectors endorsed by the Executive and will represent each of the following categories within the organisation:- • One selector should be either the OTF President or Vice President. • One selector should be one of the OTF Executive Officers. • One selector should be an OTF Board Member. Upon endorsing the three selectors the Executive will make recommendations as to who the Chair of the Captains selection committee will be. Each selector will be appointed for a term of three (3) years and the following process will guide the selectors in their role. In August, the OTF Executive Officer should email National Federations advising them that nominations for the role of Captains are open. (This should be open approximately a month after the current Tie finishes so the teams, the results and interest for the roles of Captain will be relevant at that time which may result in more nominees for the Captains positions). As an approximate guideline the selection of a team captain should be open for approximately two months but in this case until 30th September. If the team captain selection committee feels a suitable candidate has not applied they have the right to contact those individuals through their National Federations to determine their interest and facilitate an application submission. Irrespective of applicants, at the end of August, reminders can go out reminding each National Federation that applications for Captains close on the 30 th September.
