3 FROM THE OFFICERS

Dear AAHOA Members, 2018 was a year of significant growth for AAHOA and our members on multiple fronts. From education to advocacy to membership, we continued to bring members, industry partners, and our communities together.

Hitesh (HP) Patel, We saw the full effect of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) come into force as hoteliers CHA, CHO Chairman realized thousands of dollars in tax savings and reinvested that money into their businesses, higher wages for employees, new development opportunities, and new jobs. The TCJA didn’t just allow hoteliers and their employees to keep more of their hard-earned money. It created Opportunity Funds and Opportunity Zones, new vehicles for fostering economic development and growth in the areas of our country that need it most. Hoteliers are eagerly seeking out opportunities for new projects in these zones. Our ability as an association to educate lawmakers and influence the political process continues to grow. PAC donations increased 14 percent over the 2016 cycle, the number of Jagruti Panwala, Biran Patel, CHO CHO Treasurer unique contributions increased, and over 87 percent of candidates AAHOA supported won Vice Chairwoman their elections. Our voice is strong, and more people than ever are listening. With our two legislative summits, small delegation meetings, and our state capital lobby days, AAHOA is helping hoteliers establish a strong presence in Washington, D.C. and in state capitals across the country. We bring hoteliers and their elected officials together to ensure that issues affecting the industry are addressed with informed public policy solutions. AAHOA expanded its partnerships in the fight against human trafficking. Building relationships with Polaris and Businesses Ending Slavery and Trafficking (BEST), AAHOA now offers two online trainings designed to help hoteliers and their employees identify and Vinay Patel, CHO Rachel Humphrey respond to potential trafficking situations. The trainings are free to AAHOA members and Secretary Interim President & CEO their employees and are offered in English and Spanish. Thousands of hoteliers and their employees are taking advantage of this opportunity to protect their businesses.

4 2018 AAHOA ANNUAL REPORT Membership hit an all-time high as it surged past 18,500 at the close of 2018. 45 percent of all AAHOA members are lifetime members, and the numbers continue to climb.

In 2018, AAHOA hosted and participated in more than 180 local, regional, and national Hitesh (HP) Patel, CHA, CHO events, and a record-setting 14,643 members engaged in AAHOA education. We hosted Chairman over 100 webinars that saw a 60 percent increase in viewership over 2017. AAHOA remains a trusted resource for industry-leading education.

We also welcomed 17 new Industry Partners in 2018 and three new Club Blue members. Jagruti Panwala, CHO With so many vendor partners, AAHOA members have access to an impressive array of Vice Chairwoman money-saving opportunities, special deals, benefits, discounts, and relationships that make membership a valuable and worthwhile investment. Chip Rogers, AAHOA’s President and CEO, announced his departure to lead the American Hotel and Lodging Association (AHLA). Chip was instrumental in building AAHOA’s Biran Patel, CHO Treasurer advocacy presence and accelerating the association’s growth. We look forward to working with him and our allies at AHLA to continue advancing our industry and hoteliers’ interests. Rachel Humphrey, AAHOA’s chief operating officer, is serving as interim president and CEO while we search for a new executive. AAHOA is here for you.
