owls THE ORGANIC farming world has been getting a bit of stick in the press recently. They seem to have cornered the publicity market recently and as a life- time conventional producer, it was pleasing to hear that the nutrients content in modern production was just as good.

NOT SO GOOD the loss of a swarm of wild honey bees. Our ancient chimney (one brick was dated 1798) at Wash Farm was declared unsafe and has just been rebuilt from thatch level up. Before the work began, bees were buzzing around the chimney top, and so, as soon as the scaffolding was up, I asked neighbouring bee-keeper Chris Gibbons if he could help. Not as nervous as I am at heights, Beekeeper Chris ‘Gibbo the fearless’ Gibson (apparently Chris has done looking relaxed atop a 10-metre scaffold tower at serious rock-climbing), he soon Wash Farm and the lovely five-honeycomb nest zipped up and announced sadly before the bees were sadly removed. that they were out of reach and could on his moat at Gate Farm, Cranley, not be saved.
