Our summer seminarian, Grayson Heenan was officially ordained a Transitional Deacon in Rome on Fr. Jim’s birthday, September 30. He will be ordained a priest in June of 2017. Please keep Grayson and all his classmates in your daily prayers. Pictured right: Grayson with Fr. Joe Horn, Vocations Director of the Archdiocese of Detroit. Below: Grayson classmates who were also ordained Transitional Deacons.

“For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope. Then when you call upon me and come and pray to me, I will hear you.” (Jer 29:11)

Thinking About the Priesthood….How do you discern? The best first step in this sometimes difficult process is to follow the words most spoken in the Holy Scripture, “Be not afraid!” Whether it was an angel announcing good news, or Christ speaking to His disciples, setting aside your fear is the fist step. Once you are open to hearing the Lord speak to your heart, a message that will most likely come as a quiet whisper, you will be able to truly discern, figure out, ‘Lord, where are you calling me to serve you in this life?’ Discernment must involve prayer, the willingness to seek out quiet in an otherwise noisy world, a desire to know God’s will for your life, and a love for the Church and all Her members. Discernment is the first step in coming to know if the Lord is calling you to serve him as a Roman Catholic priest. See “The Watchmen” on page 4 for discernment information.

“Christ is knocking very hard at many hearts, looking for young people like you to send into the vineyard where an abundant harvest is ready.” – St. John Paul II

CSA Minute: Evangelization

The Evangelization Office is offering pastors and staff hospitality training, so they are prepared to receive others in the name of Jesus Christ, and to share Christ with those who walk in the doors of their parishes. Your CSA gifts are helping to fund this training through the Catholic Hospitality Training Institute, which is being offered at St. Anastasia Parish, Troy, on Tuesday, October 11. The training consists of four main sessions focusing on developing attitudes and behaviors for compassionate, Christ-like, and powerful service. Each session will conclude with participants choosing ideas and practices to act on once they return to their parishes. There will also be time for participants to practice the techniques they learn as well as to reflect, share, and network.
