2 T HE C OOK’ S C ORNER Hello again…I am hoping that as you read this, that we have by now realized some semblance of early spring weather. I would like to just touch on some of the new things happening in the food and beverage operations at the Club, either recently begun or coming up in the near future. By now most of you are familiar with the very popular PRI76ME nights happening on Thursdays. And if we’re having steak on Thursday, what could we do on Monday? Well, how about Burgers and Brews? A bit more casual, a bit more everyday – after all who doesn’t love a good burger? Best of all, it’s not just Mark Baker. Burgers and Brews, it’s $5 Burgers and $2 Brews. It’s simple really – the Presidents’ Bar from 3 til 9 p.m. every Monday. Beyond the basic burger (that’s the $5 one) we’ll also have some others such as the salmon burger or vegetarian burger, so there’s something for everyone. Brew-master Drew Fox will provide his beer selections and it’s all the makings for a casual Monday out. We have also added additional tables for dining and cocktails in this popular spot. Also in full flourish is Cupcake Day. Our incredible Pastry Chef Jimmy MacMillan does amazing work with his team and now every month on the first Friday we feature a Lobby kiosk with his artful take on cupcakes, boxed to take away. Always featuring a classic flavor like red velvet or something a little more hip like lemon cream meringue, it’s a nice treat to grab a box – they’re by the half dozen – to take back to the office for a Friday afternoon treat for co-workers or a little surprise for the family at home. Planning something a little more? Don’t want to risk a sell-out? Easy pre-order is available for pick-up in the Lobby; just place your order at 312.696.2297. Information and flavors of the month also are available at the website. Also on the near horizon is a new weekend brunch which will feature not only the winner of the recent Bloody Mary contest, but a few of the runners-up as well. We’ll add some new flair to the menu with items like shrimp burritos with smoky salsa, ricotta-stuffed French toast and chocolate macadamia pancakes along with a brunch bakery basket – think cinnamon buns, scones and house made beignets. And of course, we won’t forget the kids. Coming back full circle to thoughts of spring, I hope that everyone has by now seen the restored Gallery windows and renovated dining space. Thanks to all those who donated to the Centennial Initiative, the Club was able to restore the north and east windows to their true historic nature. Along with the windows, we have enhanced the dining space which will nearly double the capacity of the Gallery during season and allow us to not only extend the season but also service many more members and guests. We’re busy planning this inaugural season of the new space and look forward to sharing details soon. For those interested in using the Gallery for a private event during the shoulder season or on weekends, please contact Lychelle Lawrenz in Catering for details. So there it is – a few of the things we’ve been working on all designed to enhance your membership at the Club. Beyond this newsletter, many events are highlighted in the weekly member email, so if your email address isn’t current, please contact Membership or go online to update it. The weekly e-blast is a quick, concise, user-friendly way to see events that perhaps aren’t always in the newsletter. Look forward to seeing you around the Clubhouse – and for those keeping track, my rosemary tree has soldiered on through yet another Chicago winter.
