Region 15 Headquarters

Welcome to first article as your RC. I would like to thank Bob for being understanding for the delay of this article and hope you will also. Due the ice storm (4 day s without power is no fun), the snow storms that followed two weeks later and my commitment to the Arisia convention, I running about a month behind everything. That being said, I now look to get started serving your needs.

So, what is going on in the Fle et and the Region? Let’s start with first and perhaps easiest part of this question. The first is the Admiralty Board (AB). Last month (December) there was talk about ensuring that the RCs keep an eye on the strength of the ships in their regions. A lot of congrats for the then “new” chief of OPS. And a vote for the internal Auditor happened (I voted against the person after consulting with a CPA about what that job would entail).

Other Stories: This month has been busy, now that the holidays are over. The AB has had lo ng discussions about some IG investigations, the future code of conduct, and the vote Treasury Report 2 on the new IG. At the time of this writing, Richard Jolitz is the new IG.

Disclaimer 2 The region was very busy last month. I know I speak for many of us when I say that we really d idn’t need to see your pasty white legs, Gary! But all kidding aside, it was From Around great to see you at the holiday party, considering how far you had to travel. For those the Region 3 of you that were not at the holiday party, our former VCS and RC flew in from California to be with his family and the region. The event was considered a great Upcoming Events 3 success and I look forward to next year’s party.

Now for the question that some people have been asking me. “What changes do you plan on doing for the regional staff?” I have asked Doug Mayo to be the VRC of the region and he has accepted. I have also asked the current staff to stay in their present positions. I feel that Mike, Bob, Ellen and Dave are doing a good job. I will be asking a couple of them to step up into newer positions tha t Doug and I will be creating in the near future. Finally, I have appointed Tom Guertin to be the regional historian. Tom will be asking members about the history of the region and coming up with the definitive history of R15 (this means the good, the bad, and the ugly). If you are interested in helping, please let Tom know.

Over the next few months, I will be changing the structure of the regional staff hierarchy. This means basically, who reports to whom. We (Doug and I) want to hear from you, the member s, about what positions should stay, which need to be eliminated, and what we need to create. Doug and I are looking to create some new positions to meet your needs and desires. You know what you need and want, so tell us. I would request further that if y ou suggest a new position that you tell us some of the people that you think might be a good fit. We can only give you what you want if you tell us.

Well, that’s about it for now. I plan on visiting each chapter on a regular basis, so, if you don’t want to send me an E-mail, then you can talk to me in person. And remember, keep having fun!
