DEAR FRIENDS AND ALUMNAE,

When we were children we were often told, “Don’t touch the walls” or ”Don’t touch the windows,” because we could leave fingerprints. However, as loving, creative and caring human beings, we hope to leave our fingerprints on the hearts and lives of others.

As I walk through the halls of Resurrection College Prep High School, I cannot help but see the fingerprints of Sister Lydia Mary Yokiel, C.R., fingerprints of a loving and visionary Sister of the Congregation of the Resurrection.

Sister Lydia Mary Yokiel, C.R. died on May 7, 2018, at the age of 104, more than 56 years after she played a major role in planning and designing the current building which houses Resurrection College Prep High School. Generations of young women have been, and continue to be, blessed to experience their high school education in this facility which was designed to provide the space, atmosphere and ambiance to enhance and maximize the learning experience.

As a biology teacher and principal, Sister Lydia Mary was deeply committed to providing generations of students with a spacious environment where natural light, courtyards, soft colors, and lots of windows would stimulate creativity, lift enthusiasm, and enhance a sense of safety. Marvelously, the work of her hands accomplished her goal. Here we are today, 56 years later, enjoying and benefiting from her vision and work.

At Sister Lydia Mary’s wake, alumnae shared beautiful stories of the ways in which Sister Lydia Mary at times gently brought them reassurance or comfort, and at other times challenged them to set their goals higher. Sister left her fingerprints on their hearts.

Resurrection College Prep is making sure that students moving forward will recognize and be inspired by the story of this great woman by naming the Welcome Center in her memory. The Welcome Center, on the first floor around the corner from the main entrance, is a space designed for grade school students to gather at the beginning and end of “shadow day” experiences, as well as a space for student leaders to meet.

Those fingerprints of Sister Lydia Mary speak eloquently to all of us alumnae, current students and future students, of what we as women can accomplish, not just for now, not just for ourselves, but for others and for generations. We can make a difference in the lives of people we directly meet as well as have a rippling effect on people we may never meet.

In Charity and Truth,

MAKE A DONATION TO THE 2018-19 ANNUAL FUND At Resurrection, we are thankful for every donor and every dollar we receive. These gifts enable us to offer tuition assistance to those young women who might not otherwise benefit from a Resurrection College Prep High School education.
