BBCR has partnered with Tecuris to offer their clients new advancements through a digital innovative care system aimed at improving the lives of those living with a disability, older Australians who may be technologically challenged, or individuals who are socially isolated. BBCR CEO, Sue Clifton reported BBCR are pioneers in this great new technology. We have been working with Tecuris for the past 12 months to plan the implementation of this trial, which could then be offered to our clients. Tecuris Connect is a supported technology system, which is individualised for each client and provides a platform (interactive tablet) for easy messaging, video calling, photo sharing and lots more. The system is handcrafted for older persons who have very limited knowledge on using technology. Having a managed tablet, which has been tailored to access many topics of interest, engaging with family, friends and their community, will keep them connected, stay informed and healthy. The tablet is designed for our clients with safe access to trusted applications, websites and digital information that will keep them interested and continuing to provide them with many benefits. The Tecuris staff members have offered this wonderful opportunity free of charge for a 6 month trial period. During this time we are training, monitoring and evaluating the benefits of Tecuris connect for our organisation and the clients we support. The Tecuris Team hosted a get together at BBCR for the induction and information session for staff, clients and other support companions. Lunch was provided, it was a wonderful morning Mrs Clifton said with lots of communication, laughs and some serious discussion on how isolation can be a key factor in feeling lonely and not having the chance to stay engaged in the community. Having technology and a user friendly tablet to remotely connect to family, friends and other forums will open a whole new opportunity for remaining connected, engaged and informed through so many different avenues. The trial is now into the second month with some amazing results. New friendships have developed through vibrant communication forums, with BBCR staff, gaining new relevant information every day. Participants who have never used the Internet or an ipad are using the tablet with confidence and enthusiasm. What great achievements for some of these individuals who were at first a little apprehensive. They have mastered and embraced Tecuris Connect to the point we are now able to add other features as their confidence grows. If clients wish to advance after the trial Tecuris Health will also be available. This service supports independent living and peace of mind with the state of the art telehealth technology. We will be able to collect and monitor the health of our clients, this will include blood pressure, blood sugar monitoring and a number of other key vital parameters and indicators of our clients wellbeing and safety. We are all very excited about being pioneers in this technology environment and what we can offer together with our partnership with Tecuris. 20 Each Friday (except school holidays) from 10.30am to 12.30pm at the Senior Citizens Centre, Nowra (laneway near Roxy Cinema Berry St) Morning tea will be provided before we begin singing.
