10,000 for children and young people living in Falkenhagener Feld

 Deutsche Deutsche Wohnen re-establishes its DW Fund in Spandau  Start of applications for local actors  Tour of Falkenhagener Feld with Bettina Domer, member of the Berlin city parliament

Berlin, 10 March 2017. This year, Deutsche Wohnen has re-filled its DW Fund for Falkenhagener Feld with EUR 10,000. Local initiatives and associations in the neighbourhood can now apply for money from the fund for their projects for children and young people. Today, representatives of Deutsche Wohnen and the neighbourhood management team for Falkenhagener Feld walked around the area with Bettina Domer, member of the Berlin city parliament, to have a look at the projects which were supported by the fund last year.

DW Fund – a success story “Deutsche Wohnen is one of the biggest landlords in Spandau and Falkenhagener Feld. We take our neighbourhood development role very seriously. By supporting children and young people, we also help many families in Falkenhagener Feld and strengthen social cohesion in the neighbourhood,” explains Ines Rankewitz, head of the Deutsche Wohnen’s Service Point in 55a Goebbelstraße in Spandau. Last year, a wide variety of initiatives were supported with money from the fund. What all these initiatives have in common is their commitment to children and young people in Falkenhagener Feld. For example, a girls’ football team was given sports kit and was able to appear at tournaments and championships in Berlin and score goals for Spandau. Money from the fund was also spent on a stage for the club Kniff e.V. This helped the club to stage a local party for the residents of Falkenhagener Feld. Toys and books were bought for the Spandau Sparrows [Spandauer Spatzen], a nursery school which is attended by many children who live in Deutsche Wohnen housing. Other projects that were able to take place in 2016 because of support from the DW fund were arts and crafts during advent, a BarCamp for young people, a procession with lanterns and a painting workshop for children. When it comes to running the DW fund, Deutsche Wohnen quite deliberately focuses on its collaboration with the neighbourhood management team in Falkenhagener Feld East. This team manages the fund, takes receipt of applications and allocates funding in consultation with Deutsche Wohnen. As Ines Rankewitz explains, “Above all, our social engagement should benefit our tenants and enable projects to take place that achieve and improve something. This is why we work closely with the neighbourhood management team in Falkenhagener Feld. The members of this team know which initiatives in the neighbourhood need support and how attractive offers can be made to children and young people. At this point, I would like to express my heartfelt thanks for their marvellous commitment.”

Applications for funding in 2017 start now

From now on, active initiatives and associations in Falkenhagener Feld can get in touch and apply for money from the fund. The requirement for a successful application is that the projects benefit children and young people in Falkenhagener Feld. Applications can be sent by email throughout the year to the neighbourhood management team in Falkenhagener Feld East [email protected] or by post to: Quartiersmanagement Falkenhagener Feld Ost, Pionierstraße 129, 13589 Berlin.

Tour with Bettina Domer, member of the Berlin city parliament

On the occasion of the re-establishment of the DW Fund, Bettina Domer, member of the Berlin city parliament and representative of the electoral district of Falkenhagener Feld, visited projects today that were supported by the fund last year. Together with representatives of the neighbourhood management team and Deutsche Wohnen, she spoke with representatives of the club house in Westerwaldstraße, of the Spandauer Spatzen nursery school and the association Baum e.V.
