Made Outside of London Programme Titles Register 2010 Made outside of London programme titles register 2010 Publication date: August 2011 1 Background 1.1 Section 286 of the Communications Act 2003 requires that Channels 3 and 5 each produce a suitable proportion, range and value of programmes outside of the M25. Channel 4 faces a similar obligation under Section 288. 1.2 This document sets out the titles of programmes that the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 certified were Made outside of London (MOL) productions during 2010. 1.3 Further information from Ofcom on how it monitors regional production can be found here. 1.4 The three criteria under which a programme can qualify as MOL are: 1.4.1 The production company must have a substantive business and production based in the UK outside the M25. A base will be taken to be substantive if it is the usual place of employment of executives managing the regional business, of senior personnel involved in the production in question, and of senior personnel involved in seeking programme commissions – ‘location’ in the data set out in this register; 1.4.2 At least 70% of the production budget (excluding the cost of on-screen talent, archive material, sports rights, competition prize-money and copyright costs) must be spent in the UK outside the M25 – ‘spend’ in the data set out in this register; and 1.4.3 At least 50% of the production talent (i.e. not on-screen talent) by cost must have their usual place of employment in the UK outside the M25. Freelancers without a usual place of employment outside the M25 will nonetheless count for this purpose if they live outside the M25 – ‘talent’ in the data set out in this register. 1.5 To qualify a series must meet at least two of these three criteria. 1.6 There are six territories to which a MOL programme can be allocated: 1.6.1 Scotland; or 1.6.2 Wales; or 1.6.3 Northern Ireland; or 1.6.4 South of England (comprising the South-West and South-East England); Midlands/East of England (West Midlands, East Midlands and East of England); North of England (Yorkshire and Humber, North-West and North- East England). 1.7 In 2010, all the PSB met both their value- and volume-based MOL quotas, as illustrated in Figure 1. • Putney Sofka Zinovieff
AUGUST 2018 Putney Sofka Zinovieff From the acclaimed author comes a brilliant, challenging novel about a bohemian family in 1970s London and the consequences of a taboo relationship Sales points • Sofka Zinovieff 's previous books have received widespread critical acclaim. Her most recent, The Mad Boy, Lord Berners, My Grandmother and Me was a New York Times Editors ' Choice, 2015. Putney will have a major publicity campaign, including masses of author interviews and events. • Sensitively exploring a taboo subject (a sexual relationship between a child and an adult), this novel is a perfect book club read. • Will appeal to fans of Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov, The Line of Beauty by Alan Hollinghurst, Never Mind by Edward St Aubyn and Diary of a Teenage Girl by Phoebe Gloeckner. Description From the acclaimed author comes a brilliant, challenging novel about a bohemian family in 1970s London and the consequences of a taboo relationship Ralph Boyd 's first glimpse of 9 year-old Daphne will be etched on his mind forever. Dark, teasing, slippery as mercury, she seems neither boy nor girl, but sprite something elemental. An up-and-coming composer, Ralph is visiting the writer Edmund Greenslay at his riverside home in Putney to discuss a collaboration. In its colourful rooms and unruly garden, Ralph finds an intoxicating world of sensuous ease and bohemian abandon that captures the mood of the moment. Entranced, he knows he will return. But Ralph is twenty-five and Daphne is only a child, and even in the liberal 1970s a fast-burgeoning relationship between a man and his friend 's daughter must be kept secret.

Archived BBC public responses to complaints 2014 The One Show, BBC One, 14 January 2014 Complaint We have received complaints about Paul O'Grady's appearance on the One Show on 14 January. Some viewers felt that his views on benefit reform were not adequately challenged. BBC's Response The One Show is a topical magazine programme which occasionally reports on prominent news stories. Following media coverage of the debate around Channel Four's Benefits Street, The One Show asked members of the public for their views on the programme. A variety of opinions were heard from all sides of the debate. Following this, and in keeping with One Show tradition, the presenters discussed the issues raised with that day's studio guest, Paul O'Grady. Paul was clearly identified as a Labour supporter, and he was challenged on how he would reduce the benefits bill. Paul's views were forthright, and on reflection more could have been done to put them into context, but it is important to note that balance can be achieved across a number of programmes, and this is a subject that the One Show has covered before and hopes to revisit again in the future. EastEnders, BBC One, 14 January 2014 Complaint We received complaints from some viewers who were unhappy with a comment made by Shabnam during EastEnders on 14 January 2014. The BBC's response EastEnders has a rich history of tackling social issues. The show does not advocate racism or intolerance in any way; in fact it seeks to challenge these negative views.
