Listeddouble Forintikhab Quarterly Newsletter January 2010 derrinstownderrinstown digestdigest ALHAARTH BAHRI ELNADIM INTIKHAB HAATEF MARJU TAMAYUZ LISTED double for INTIKHAB It was a double delight when the INTIKHAB sired pair WITHOUT A PRAYER and LES FAZZANI took both Listed events on the same card at Kempton respectively. WITHOUT A PRAYER took the Listed Hyde Stakes by a comfortable three lengths. They set a blistering pace in this mile event, he was always travelling best of all and lay in sixth position coming round the home turn. Carrying top weight in this contest, he came with a devastating burst of speed up the centre of the track to take the honours and win his third Listed event to date which was just outside the mile course record. LES FAZZANI took the following race on the card, the Listed Wild Flower Stakes to complete the Listed double for INTIKHAB. LES FAZZANI made all in the 1 mile 4 furlong contest under Jamie Spencer. She led from start to finish and when asked to quicken over 2 furlongs out, stayed on strongly and was never in any danger of being caught. This is also her third Listed win to date. Without A Prayer 1st Stakes Winner of the Year!! INTIKHAB, Sire of KURT, winner of the Listed Premio Nastro d’Oro di Sicilia on 16th January 2010!! Les Fazzani INTIKHAB has produced no less than 16 two year old winners in 2009 and obviously caught the eye of leading bloodstock expert Bill Oppenheim when he wrote: ‘The other Derrinstown relative ‘cheapie’ is INTIKHAB, who regularly features on everybody’s leading value lists, especially since dual 2006-2007 Group 1 winner Red Evie came along. He had two all-weather listed winners one day at Kempton late last month, and his numbers still read like an awfully consistent sire for what it costs to breed to him’ (TDN 23.12.09) Did you give your mare the perfect gift this Christmas…. ?? Sire of unbeaten Group 1 winner AWZAAN His 2009 winners included the leading two year olds AWZAAN (Gr.1 Shadwell Middle Park Stakes and Gr.2 Dubai Duty Free Mill Reef Stakes) and MORANA (Gr.3 Autumn Stakes), as well as the Gr.1 Classic Placed MOURAYAN Previous successes include the multiple Gr.1 winning Champions HAAFHD and PHOENIX REACH, and Group winners BANDARI, HOH Awzaan BUZZARD, DOMINICA etc. Morana Champion Miler and sire of Champion SAKHEE His 2009 successes included the dual Listed winner GESTURE, MAGIC MORNINGS and TAPIOKA EXPRESS Other Group/Stakes winners include ALSHAKR, ACTS OF GRACE, SECRET HIS- TORY, ALBAHRI, ANTONYM, Gesture CHAMPERY, COSMODROME etc. Dual Champion Sprinter and a Group 1 sire in 2009 A consistent sire of Black Type performers, ELNADIM’s 9 individual Stakes horse in 2009 include the Gr.1 and Gr.2 winner CULMINATE and the Gr.3 winners PASAR SILBANO, ELBLITZEM and ACCARDO Culminate Other Group winners include: ELLETELLE, WI DUD, ELNAWIN, AL QASI, CALDRA, PENDRAGON etc Accardo Group winning sprinter By Champion Sire of Sires DANZIG; also sire of DANEHILL and GREEN DESERT From the family of WALAYEF, ULFAH, MUHBUBH, KAYRAWAN etc. Won 4 races, 2-3 from 6f-7f including the Gr.2 Diadem Stakes; 4th Gr.1 Dewhurst Stakes (3 lengths to Teofilo) World Champion Miler and Multiple Gr.1 sire His principal 2009 performers included the Stakes horses INDIANA GAL, SHAMAKIYA, LES FAZZANI and WITHOUT A PRAYER; the Gr.1 placed LEXLENOS, and the useful two year olds HAFAWA, SNOW FAIRY and KIDNAPPING Proven sire of Gr.1 winners RED EVIE and PAITA Without A Prayer Also Sire of KURT, Stakes Winner in 2010!! STAFF PROFILE Andrea Cleary Andrea Cleary, originally from Dublin, but now living in Dunshaughlin, has worked at Derrinstown for the past seven years. Many of you will already be familiar with Andrea as she is our receptionist here at Derrinstown Stud. Andrea is responsible for a wide range of duties such as manning our busy switch board all year round and particularly during the busy months of the breeding season. She also liaises regularly with our Stud Grooms and staff regarding feed orders, oil orders, staff accommodation, veterinary supplies etc. Andrea attended Enniskillen College and completed her HND in Equine Studies. She spent her six month college placement at Kildangan Stud where she was first introduced to the Thoroughbred. After finishing College, she immediately began working with mares at Derrinstown at our Moneycooley division. Andrea then moved to our busy Public Stud where she worked for three years before moving into her current position. During her time on the Public she was responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day care of mares and foals as well as assisting our resident veterinarian Tom Burns with x-rays, bloods and was responsible for the distributing and ordering of veterinary supplies from our Veterinary Lab. Andrea has a keen interest in dogs, and together with her three year old Rottweiler, Cuchulain The Brave (Cooper), she has been competing in several high class shows for the past two years. Cooper has recently been awarded the title of ‘Irish Show Champion’ and has also qualified for the prestigious Crufts competition. Andrea is very ex- cited to be attending this event with Cooper and we wish her every success at Crufts in March.
