Union Ministers Smt. Smriti Irani, Shri Piyush Goyal & Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman to Participate in Talkathon Tomorrow Ministers to interact directly with netizens through Twitter using #AskYourGovt @MIB_India Live answers on I&B YouTube Channel As part of its initiative to highlight the achievements of the Government in the last one year, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is organizing “Talkathon”. In the first of its kind, the Talkathon platform would involve the participation of three Union Ministers simultaneously. Minister for Human Resource Development, Smt. Smriti Zubin Irani, Union Minister of State (I/C) for Power, Coal, New and Renewable Energy, Shri Piyush Goyal and Union Minister of State (I/C) for Commerce and Industry, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman will be participating on the Talkathon platform together. The Talkathon programme is scheduled to be held for a duration of 90 minutes tomorrow i.e. 30 th May, 2015 from 6 PM onwards. The program would be live from National Media Centre, New Delhi. Talkathon is an initiative by the New Media Wing of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting which connects the virtual space with physical world. Under the platform, participants in the social media space can post questions on Twitter which would be answered by the guests in real-time. The users may use the hashtag #AskYourGovt to post their queries to the Twitter handle of the Ministry @MIB_India. The speakers/experts shall reply to the queries posted on Twitter, in real time. The event would be webcasted LIVE on YouTube channel of the Ministry ( www.youtube.com/inbministry ), pib.nic.in, india.gov.in, www. youtube .com/ DDNewsofficial and DD News. This is the third edition of the Talkathon. It was introduced at International Film Festival of India, 2014 followed by Talkathon with Railway Minister Shri Suresh Prabhu post Rail Budget.The last edition of the Talkathon was with Minister for Finance, Corporate Affairs and I&B, Shri Arun Jaitley soon after he presented the Budget on March 28, 2015. The latter was especially successful with the hashtag #AskFM trending at Number 1 on Twitter. The current edition of Talkathon is a collaborative effort of the New Media Wing, Press Information Bureau and Doordarshan News under the aegis of I&B Ministry. .

Against this backdrop, our members, representing the most innovative information and communications technology (ICT) companies in the world, would like to highlight the value of a stable and predictable tariff regime. While many countries around the world continue to lower import duties on ICT products, India has in recent years raised duties multiple times on a wide array of ICT items. These actions undermine business confidence on two counts. Not only do higher duties make it more expensive to manufacture and sell products, but the unexpected imposition of new fees creates a destabilizing sense of uncertainty. Companies find it harder to plan for the future when faced with the prospect that operating costs could rise unexpectedly. This makes it difficult to justify expanded investments in facilities and staff. For example, last year’s unexpected increase in ICT customs duties raised input costs by up to 10 percent for many technology suppliers. The fee increase followed an earlier unexpected round of duty hikes on ICT products in 2014, including on Information Technology Agreement products. While we applaud the government’s decision to repeal some of the 2016 levies, many ICT duties remain in effect. In short, our members have major concerns over the future direction of tariffs, when they will change, and how those changes will impact their ability to invest in India.

Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Commerce & Industry Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman was born on 18th August 1959 in the temple town of Madurai, Tamil Nadu. She did her schooling and her graduation in Economics, from Seethaiakshmi Ramaswamy College in Tiruchirapalli. She went on to do her masters in Economics from Jawaharla Nehru University, New Delhi. Indo European Textile Trade was the focus of her draft Ph.D thesis. Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman served as an assistant to Economist in the Agricultural Engineers Association, UK in London. She subsequently worked as Senior Manager (Research and Analysis) with Price Waterhouse, London. During this time she also briefly worked with BBC World Service. On her return to India, she served as Dy. Director of the Centre for Public Policy Studies at Hyderabad. Her interest in education led her to lay the foundation of ‘Pranava’ a reputed school in Hyderabad. She was a member of the National Commission for Women from 2003-2005 and instrumental in voicing various issues of women empowerment. Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman joined Bhartiya Janata Party in 2008, and was made a member of the National Executive. She was nominated as party spokesperson in March 2010, from when she has been a full time party worker. Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman was inducted in the Union of India’s Cabinet in a Government led by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on 26th May 2014. She was made a Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Commerce and Industry. Smt. Nirmal Sitharaman is married to Dr. Parakala Prabhakar, alumnus of Jawharlal Nehru University and London School of Economics, and they have one daughter.

The Fund aims to provide financial assistance to startups for proof of concept, prototype development, product trials, market entry, and commercialization. The Scheme was announced by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi on 16th January 2021 in his Grand Plenary address of ‘Prarambh: Startup India International Summit’, marking the five-year anniversary of the Startup India initiative. Rs. 945 Crore corpus will be divided over the next 4 years for providing seed funding to eligible startups through eligible incubators across India. The scheme is expected to support an estimated 3,600 startups through 300 incubators. Speaking on the occasion, Shri Goyal said that this scheme is being launched within 3 months of its announcement, one of the fastest in the recent times. He said that times are tough, but our resolve is strong, and never before has it become more important for us to empower our startups. The Minister said that the SISFS will Secure seed funding, Inspire innovation, Support transformative ideas, Facilitate implementation, and Start startup revolution. He said that this Scheme will create a robust startup ecosystem, particularly in Tier 2 and Tier 3 towns of India, which are often deprived of adequate funding.

(NIPL), the international arm of National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI), in partnership with the Royal Monetary Authority (RMA) of Bhutan. • Bhutan will also become the only country to both issue and accept RuPay cards as well as accept BHIM-UPI.
