Emergency services were called to the crash near the Clifton Road intersection just after 3am. The crash impact caused the pow- er pole to fall across the bonnet of the car and brought down power lines, causing one lane of the road to be closed for a number of hours while Vector repaired the network. Beachlands’ chief fire office Shane Ruther- ford says the volunteer fire brigade attended with both fire appliances and the brigade’s van, and remained on site for over three hours. The driver of the BMW car was taken to Middlemore Hospital with moderate injuries.
