"Disgraced" premieres November 11 at 12 p.m. Pacific. Theatre Works audio production of "Disgraced" by Ayad Akhtar and directed by Brian Kite. Amir has left his Pakistani heritage behind in an attempt to make partner at his corporate law firm, but his wife Emily doesn't share his negative feelings about Islam-she's encouraged Amir to help with the case of a controversial imam. When they throw a dinner party for Amir's colleague Jory and her husband Isaac, the hard truths revealed lead to the unraveling of their carefully constructed lives. As he approaches the end of a lengthy prison sentence, Oedipus is ready to taste his long-awaited freedom. But physical liberation comes at a price, and life on the outside proves its own kind of prison ruled by a cruel and violent fate. Based on Sophocles' classic tale, "Oedipus El Rey" is an urgent examination of modern institutions, social barriers, and the power of storytelling for those bold enough to challenge the gods of our time. Written and performed by Dael Orlandersmith and directed by CTG Associate Artistic Director Neel Keller, "Until the Flood" draws on her Orlandersmith's interviews with residents across the greater St. Louis area to create composite characters that reflect a wide range of perspectives and experiences of race to discuss the roots of unrest and the search for healing. "Until the Flood," was originally commissioned and produced by The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, and subsequently produced around the United States and in Ireland, Scotland and England, with the same performer, director and creative team. THE SOUND OF MUSIC Wednesday, October 7, 2015 Ahmanson Theatre, Los Angeles THE SOUND OF MUSIC The Sound of Music is a stage and film musical based on The Story of the Trapp Family Singers, the memoir of Maria von Trapp. The story takes place in Austria at the brink of World War II. Maria, a plucky nun turned governess, is charged with caring for the seven children of a military captain. Maria’s delightful teaching of music to the children leads to their becoming a celebrated touring act, the innocence of which is shattered as the realities of Nazi rule become inescapable. Notably, many details of the von Trapp family story were changed to increase the dramatic impact of the musical version. Inspired by a pair of German films about the von Trapps from the mid-1950s, the stage version of The Sound of Music premiered on Broadway in 1959. The production won multiple Tony Awards, and the show has been revived many times since, including a renowned 1998 Broadway revival. The 1965 film version starring Julie Andrews won five Academy Awards and is still beloved today by viewers around the world. Written by Rodgers and Hammerstein, the songs of The Sound of Music—including “My Favorite Things,” “Do, Re, Mi,” “Edelweiss,” and the title song—have been celebrated for more than half a century. RODGERS AND HAMMERSTEIN Composer Richard Rodgers and librettist Oscar Hammerstein were one of the most prolific, successful songwriting teams in the history of musical theatre.     WELCOME Greenway Arts Alliance has been honored to serve thousands of students, artists and community members for the last twenty years. Did you know that you are on the campus of Fairfax High School in a building designed and constructed by Fairfax students as a “Social Hall” in the 1940’s? Based on articles in the school newspaper, the students were committed to building a home in which to “socialize.” Greenway continues this commit- ment through our mission to unite communities through our productions at the Greenway Court Theatre, which give our patrons the opportunity to share in the communal experience of live theatre. Jennifer Barclay's Ripe Frenzy, produced through the National New Play Network's Rolling World Premiere program, is the culminating production of Greenway's 20th Anniversary season. In it we showcase our recommitment to producing important new works that explore the pressing social issues of our time. As we write this letter in preparation for Opening Night, we do so with the knowledge that students, teachers and parents in Santa Fe, Texas, are mourning their friends and children lost in yet another school shooting. Since Columbine, we have watched in horror as 85 similar shootings have occurred, killing 223 people. As a theatre in residence on a high school campus, we say ENOUGH, and hope that this produc- tion will inspire our audiences to interrogate society's role in the proliferation of these events, and look for ways to work toward ending them. Founded over forty years ago, Theatre Forward fosters collaboration between America’s prominent regional theatres, connects them to funding and resources on a national level, and advocates for the arts in America. We imagined it would be a period of weeks, or perhaps a few months, before normal operations would resume. As time passed and the severity of the pandemic became more apparent, theatre executives courageously faced the unavoidable and made difficult but necessary decisions to downsize and, in many cases, to cut salaries for remaining staff, and take programs and fundraising events online. During this dark period, Theatre Forward and its valued partner-donors remained committed to providing funds for general operating support, workforce stabilization, education programs, and the advancement of equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) within the theatres and their communities. In May of 2020, Theatre Forward was proud to administer a $1 million COVID-19 relief grant program on behalf of the Hearst Foundations. And in the fiscal year ending June 30, 2021, grants and donations from individuals, corporations and foundations made it possible for Theatre Forward to distribute $870,000 to its member theatres.
