FRC ACTION VOTE SCORECARD 114TH CONGRESS / First Session Available at FRCAction.org/scorecard U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate Dear Voter and Friend of the Family, FRC Action presents our Vote Scorecard for the First Session of the 114th Congress. This online Scorecard contains a compilation of significant votes on federal legislation affecting faith, family, and freedom that FRC Action either supported or opposed. These recorded votes span the 2015 calendar year and include the greatest number of pro-life votes in history, after the U.S. House increased its Republican membership and the U.S. Senate was returned to Republican control. The year began with a bipartisan effort in the House to prohibit federal funds from being used to pay for abortion coverage under Obamacare. Congress successfully fought to restrict FDA approval of some forms of embryo-destructive research. The House, once again, passed legislation that would prevent late abortions on 5 month old pain-capable unborn children, and although the Senate was unable to pass the bill due to the 60 vote threshold, for the first time, a majority of Senators voted in favor of the bill. The public release of videos revealing Planned Parenthood’s organ harvesting practices renewed efforts to defund this scandal-ridden organization and redirect funding towards community health centers. In an unprecedented victory, the House and Senate passed a budget reconciliation bill, the Restoring Ameri- cans’ Healthcare Freedom Reconciliation Act, which would have eliminated a significant portion of Planned Parenthood’s funding—roughly 80%— and repealed key provisions of Obamacare.

  • YOUR CALL to ACTION How You Can Start Making a Difference Today
YOUR CALL TO ACTION How you can start making a difference today The National Cannabis Industry Association exists to represent the interests of legitimate and responsible cannabis-related businesses in our nation’s capital. Our core mission is to ensure that our members are treated like businesses in any other American industry. NCIA encourages our members to be politically active on all levels of government and contact your elected officials both at home and in Washington, D.C. Every year, Congress must pass appropriations legislation to fund the government for the upcoming fiscal year. Over the past two years, NCIA has been very successful lobbying members to support pro-cannabis appropriations amendments that have protected state-sanctioned medical cannabis businesses and been enacted into law. But this has to be repeated every year and there are no guaranteed victories without hard work. The appropriations “season” usually begins in the springtime, and as we get closer to votes it’s important that Congressional offices hear from you. Although it is becoming harder and harder for Congress to do basic functions (including funding the government), NCIA will continue to focus on appropriations this year. HOW TO IMPACT CHANGE Rep. Mark Amodei (R) sits on the House Appropriations Committee and recently voted against cannabis-related provisions after voting for them in years past. Be sure to contact Rep. Amodei’s office and ask for their support of the responsible and legitimate cannabis industry. TWITTER CAMPAIGN Call, write, or tweet your Representative and Senators and ask that they support the pro-cannabis amendments that will eventually be introduced during floor votes.

  • For Obama, Being Right Is No Longer Enough
The Republican Party After the Election Lincoln Mitchell, Harriman Institute, Columbia University Posted: October 15, 2010 01:14 PM As the midterm election approaches, rarely a day goes by when a Republican candidate does not say something that progressives view as outrageous and which a generation ago many Republicans would have viewed similarly. In the last few weeks, a Republican congressional candidate in Californiacalled for the abolishment of public schools, another House candidate, this time from Ohio, offered anextremely half-hearted apology for being photographed wearing a Nazi uniform while seeming oblivious as to why this might be offensive to many Americans, and former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, a potential presidential candidate in 2012,has continued to refer to President Obama's "Kenyan, anti-colonial worldview." To some extent, this reflects the nature of American politics today, where no claim or accusation is too bizarre, or requires any evidence whatsoever to be taken at least somewhat seriously by many in the media. Widespread voter anger has been channeled into a hostility, meanness and irrationality that has defined not just a few individual campaigns but almost the entire political climate of the country. Much of this has come from the group of anti-government, generally far- right extremists, which can be lumped together under the term Tea Party. This is a little misleading, because while too much ink, or its digital equivalent, has already been spilled trying to figure out what the Tea Party really means, its close financial and political ties to the Republican Party makes the answer to this question very clear.
