DAY 1 SEGMENT 1 Where to Ideas come from? – Our Creativity is the sum of our experiences/consumption. Breaking your Story – Couch time, research, plot device, and themes. How to Write – Technical methods for writing, reading other script, and examples. “God help me, it’s time to write” – Find and maintain your tone, structure, characters, foreshadowing/setup, scenes, dialogue, and shooting scripts. – Color coding, characters & numbers, and breaking pages. Shot List, , & Camera Plots – How/shy to create a shot list, how/why to create storyboards, and camera plots. – Timing the script, strip boards, shot lister, scheduling, and everything else. Finding Cast/Crew – Cast, Crew, and making it everyone’s movie. Location & Logistics – Finding locations and identifying logistics. VFX in Pre-Pro – Going in with post production in mind. Finding a Budget – Invest in yourself, kick starter, and beg/borrow/steal.

SEGMENT 2 Audio – Mics, accessories, recorders, monitoring levels, limiters, booming techniques, etc. Camera – Color space, using a waveform monitor, and Iris/shutter/ISO Lenses/accessories – Focus throw, anamorphic, fast lenses, focal length, and image stabilization Monitors – Magic arms/mini ball heads and the view finder Rigs – Shoulder rig, dollies, sliders, jib, glidecam, and movi. DAY 2 SEGMENT 1 Color Temperature – Setting in camera, color temp of lights, and working with various lights. Simple Scene Execution – Tips and tricks for simple dialogue scenes Framing the Scene – Over the shoulder vs not, what angle to use & when, and eye line Guiding the Audience’s Eye – Light, shot design, and focus.

SEGMENT 2 Wide Screen Bars/Re-Framing in Post – Shooting for wide screen and moving shots Making the Frame Interesting – Foreground, mid-ground, and background. Lighting with one Light – Bouncing light, backlight, and DIY lighting Motivating the Light – Where is the light coming from? Lamp, window, etc. Creating Atmosphere – Fog machines, back light, diffusion, mood light, shafts of light, etc.

SEGMENT 3 On Set Data – Camera settings, measurements, light types, etc. Green Screen – Shoot the screen, keying methods, and common mistakes. Getting Clean Plates – Shooting examples and mixing plates with the actual clips. SEGMENT 4 Visual Storytelling – Shot types and camera movement Coverage – Basic coverage, what order to shoot coverage, and triangle coverage Meaning Behind your Visuals – Meaning behind different shots and various camera movements Lens Choices – Longer lenses, wide angle, and standard lenses

DAY 3 SEGMENT 1 Making the Location Work for You – Using multiple location and how to make them work Setups and pay offs – Setup with no payoffs and payoffs with no setup Shooting for the Edit – Shooting your scene with the end result in mind Scene Transitions – Pans, sound, action, fog, etc. Shooting Action – Stunts, punches, guns, etc

SEGMENT 2 Shooting a Scene – Blocking, movement, and choreography Working with Actors – Rehearsals, motivation, and attention. Amateur Actors – Line reads, getting a reaction, and communication.

SEGMENT 3 Editing – J & L cuts, pacing, motivating the cut, and how to use coverage. Sound & Music – Adding in sound, mastering the sound, and music score Reframing & Stabilizing in Post – Re-framing in post and getting your shots extra smooth Color Correction – S-curves, Magic Bullet/Colorista, adjusting layers, and grading. Post Production VFX – Organize and gather assets, file structure, naming, and editing

SEGMENT 4 Compositing – Render passes, masking/roto, muzzle flash, screen replacement, etc. Getting your Stuff out There – Uploading, sending to blogs and such, sharing, etc.
