History of Silver and Gay Manufacturing Company Silver & Gay Co., North Chelmsford, Machine Shop - established in 1832 - later, the North Chelmsford Machine and Supply Company - deed of 1834: Ira Gay of Dunstable bought from Lincoln Drake of Easton, land, buildings, water power and rights-of-way in Chelmsford, formerly a part of the estate of Shepherd Leach; - description in deed of the machine shop, air furnace, etc.,; and also "a water power sufficient to carry 1000 spindles, such as are used in the Hamilton Mills in Lowell, for spinning cotton yarn" (Waters' History pp. 668 and 669) - 1838 -- deed from Lincoln and Caroline Drake to Ziba Gay of Nashua, N.H. for three undivided parts of several pieces of land with water power and rights- of=Way over the road between Middlesix Turnpike And the road leading from Adams Tavern (North Chelmsford) to Lowell - 1841 -- Ziba Gay deeded to Harvey Silver one undivided half of all lands, buildings, water power, rights- of-way, etc., included in previous deeds to Z.Gay. 78 .30
