This decrease is almost completely attributable to a reduction in all categories of false alarm. The statistics for the Wards are enclosed. Where a Ward is not shown on the statistics, it indicates that no Fire Service activity was recorded in that area for the period concerned. The figure for the number of attacks on fire crews in the first part of the year has not yet been finalised, but so far there have been no instances of hydrant misuse. The attacks on crews are being examined by the Station Manager of Coatbridge fire station and in partnership with the local Police and other partners solutions will be sought to address what is a re emerging problem. 28 ACTIVITY Spec Service Emergenc Blairpark Ward 1 False Alarm ADparatus.. This equates to over 560 people receiving the service, 42 of which were discovered to be in the high-risk category. This represents a significant potential saving of life. Fire Reach Pilot The fist of two one-week courses aimed at S3 and S4 pupils has commenced at Coatbridge fire station. The first course which is attended by pupils from the Motive 8 program includes various Fire Service related activities and is designed to allow the students to look at their own behaviour in relation to others in a reasonably formal setting. The second course starts on Monday 5th.March 2007 and will have a similar content. This second group of pupils are from S3 and are currently fully engaged in the education system, it is hoped that this group will gain more self-confidence and group skills. The initiative also gives all the pupils attending an opportunity to experience the working environment at an early stage in their education. Coatbridge Easter Festival of Fun Strathclyde Fire and Rescue Service are happy to be taking part in this Strathclyde Police initiative in both a practical way and in the partial financing of the event. North Lanarkshire kids This initiative was offered to all P7 pupils in all schools in the North Lanarkshire area and is a joint venture between Strathclyde Police, the Education Department and Strathclyde Fire and Rescue along with several other partners. These include British Transport Police, Trading Standards N.H.S. Lanarkshire Know the Score (drugs education) and Scottish Power. It includes a 'Hazard House' where students are 'exposed' to various hazardous scenarios with a view to them identifying the issues. The uptake for this initiative has been extremely positive with 1 18 out of 127 schools attending the sessions. 31 .
