FOR SALE FREEHOLD BY PRIVATE TREATY COOLE ABBEY Coole Abbey is a fine Georgian country house steeped in much history. The house derives its name from the abbey, the remains of which are located to the front of the house, which it is believed was founded in 1296 by the Norman de Burgh (Barry) family who gave it into the care of the Knights Templars. The old church to the east has some beautiful arches whilst there are the remains of the ancient castle of Coole, formerly belonging to the Earls of Desmond. A holy well is also located within the curtilage of the property.

The house, originally three storey over basement, was built for Henry Peard c.1765 and designed by Davis Duckart, also the architect of nearby Kilshannig and Castle Hyde Estates. This important house is now arranged on three floors with the roof believed to be of nineteenth century origin with wide projecting eaves. There is a five bay façade with a three bay breakfront and round-headed window above the doorway. The doorway is approached by a set of limestone steps leading to a flagstone terrace with curved wrought iron railings. The stone on the façade has been exposed whilst the rest of the building is rendered.

Coole Abbey has been upgraded in recent years and offers spacious, well-proportioned accommodation extending to over 745 sq m (8000 sq ft). There is a fine entrance hall with staircase of solid 18th century joinery together with bright and spacious reception rooms with 3.55 m (12 ft) ceilings lit by large timber sash windows. The rear of the house is linked to a fine enclosed courtyard by curved walls where the buildings contain many fine details, including cut stone arches.

COUNTY CORK Coole Abbey is well located in the River Bride valley, a picturesque and unspoiled rural area of rolling countryside north of Cork City some 8 km from Fermoy, a thriving market town within easy reach of Cork, Ireland’s second city which is some 25 minutes drive. Fermoy offers a wide range of financial, shopping and leisure facilities whilst Cork offers a wide variety of cultural and sporting activities and first class shopping, financial and sporting facilities together with International Airport with an increasing range of internal and international destinations including the UK and Europe. A new terminal will be opened this year.

New road infrastructure in the region has led to a vast improvement in travel times in recent years. Fermoy will benefit from a new bypass and a motorway standard link to Cork from Corrin interchange 6 km directly from the property. This will significantly shorten journey times to Cork further and transform the town by removing a huge volume of traffic.

Coole Abbey lies within an area of outstanding sporting and recreational facilities. Golf is well catered for with local courses at Fermoy, Lismore and and several first class courses around the city and harbour including Fota Island and Cork Golf Club. The coast is within easy reach with safe sandy beaches and character fishing village about 40 minutes drive. Some of the finest sailing is available from , and with excellent club and marina facilities. Excellent fishing is available on the Blackwater and Bride which hold a good stock of fish and are renowned for their run of salmon and sea trout. Racing is at Mallow, and Tipperary whilst there is an extensive point-to-point calendar locally over the winter months.
