We have created Youth Cafés and Youth Hubs where you can further your education, get training and gain skills, as well as enhance your de- velopment and growth. All of these aim to make you more employable, help you find work or even start your own business.

If you are between the ages of 15 and 25 and want to improve your skills, or even just need a safe space to study, feel free to visit your closest facility.

YOUTH CAFÉS

Our Youth Cafés provide a safe environment where you can meet peo- ple like you, learn, and develop. You can earn rewards, which you can use to buy coffee, internet time and more.

THE NATIONAL DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT SOCIAL WORK SCHOLARSHIPS

The National Department of Social Development offers scholarships to people who are interested in pursuing a career in social work. The Western Cape Department of Social Development administers these scholarships throughout the Province.

8 YOUTH BOOKLET To be eligible for this scholarship you must:

• be a South African citizen who at the time of application is in Grade 12 or has successfully passed the Grade 12 examination with a tertiary entrance requirement; • be a South African citizen who is pursuing a social work qualification at an accredited South African tertiary institution (selection will be based primarily on academic performance and financial background); and • submit your application form accompanied by the admission letter from the tertiary institution, as well as certified copies of your ID, Grade 12 certificate and academic results. Please also include proof of income of your parents/guardians, certified copies of their IDs, and contact numbers. No application will be considered without these.

WESTERN CAPE GOVERNMENT SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME

Youth unemployment, especially of tertiary graduates (university and university of technology), is a serious issue facing our Province and country.

If you are a young graduate or student in need of work experience, ap- ply for the Western Cape Government Social Development Internship Programme. We have an opportunity to provide you with work-based training to gain knowledge, skills and workplace experience that will make you more employable.

Who qualifies for this internship? • Unemployed graduates who have not had work experience related to their studies • Young people who are currently studying at a higher education institution and who need to complete an internship period in order to graduate.
