Following the concept of Caliber, debuting in 2005 at the St. Petersburg Motor Show, the pre-distribution version debuted at the North American International Auto Show in 2006, with the launch in March 2006. The calibre was manufactured at the Belvidere Assembly factory (Illinois), and within six years of its model run, just over 400,000 were produced. Kalibr Marketing has been one of Dodge's first modern offerings in Europe and in Asian markets such as Japan, Korea and Singapore since it created new sales channels there. It was also introduced in China in 2008 as the second modern Dodge car offering in this market. Dodge cars were last officially sold in China during World War II. The introduction of Kalibra marked the return of the Dodge brand to Australia in the early 1970s. Because Chrysler products were considered large for the Japanese market, Chrysler offered products that offered spacious interiors with four doors and single-piece liftgates to broaden their appeal to the Japanese as a compromise to pay the annual tax on large vehicles. The marketing plan for the first year of Kalibra included 20% of the budget for Internet marketing, print advertising and television advertising. Features of Dodge Caliber continuously variable transmission (called CVT2 dodge), according to Jatco (a subsidiary of Nissan), the second model of DaimlerChrysler, using this technology after mercedes-Benz A-Class. It uses a four-cylinder 1.8-2.4 litre World petrol engine developed jointly by Chrysler, Mitsubishi and Hyundai. The vehicle is equipped with an additional electronic-controlled, variable torque system at speeds of 25 to 65 mph (40 to 105 km/h) for optimal handling. The calibre uses a heavily modified GS platform developed in conjunction with Mitsubishi Motors. The modified GS platform is now called the JS Chrysler platform for midsize cars and PM/MK for compact cars. It shares part of the platform with the Mitsubishi Lancer, but is most similar to the Jeep Compass and Jeep Patriot. The wheels of the Caliber have a 5-hole pattern with a circle of bolts caliber 114.3 mm. Safety Insurance Institute of Road Safety (IIHS) gave the Caliber a total good score in head-on crash testing. The Dodge Caliber was standard with side curtain airbags, but the airbags of the torso side were optional. IIHS scored Kalibr Marginal overall in their side-kick test. However, that Caliber was not equipped with an additional airbag to the side of the torso. The Model Three models were available at the launch of The Caliber, with the fourth available in mid-2006. The base SE is front-wheel drive and 1.8 hp (110 kW) World I4 attached to the 5-speed Magna Drivetrain T355. An option was a 2.0-liter version of the 158 hp (118 kW) engine paired with the CVT2 transmission. The standard configuration for the SE lacks air conditioning, power windows, door locks, or mirrors. The lattice surrounds the body of color, while all other models are chrome. Canadian models SXT and R/T are equipped with body color grills instead of chrome grilles. The SE calibre has no tachometer or auxiliary handles, 15 in (38 cm) steel wheels with wheel lids are standard. Some options were not available on SE. In 2011, this model was named Express, returning to SE in 2012. In 2012, the CVT transmission option was dropped only for SE, leaving the five-speed manual transmission as the only transmission available for the SE. CVT continued to be available in the SXT and SXT Plus models in 2012. The SXT has the same engine choice as the SE, but many other features are available as standard. The air conditioning is standard equipment at this level, including the Chill beverage cooler area inside the front lower glove compartment. The calibration cluster receives a tachometer and an (optional) trip computer. Driver's seat adds height adjustment, passenger seat folds flat and the rear seats recline. The price includes power windows, locks, mirrors and a remote, no-go entrance. The grille is chrome and the 17's (43 cm) steel wheels are standard, with 17 in aluminium wheels as an option. The light of the cargo area includes a removable and rechargeable flashlight, while the front dome of light includes two reading lamps. In Europe, this version has also been commercialized with a 2.0-litre VW turbodiesel. It consists of 17 in (43 cm) aluminum wheels, colored fabric seat inserts, colored dashboard trim, along with fog lights. The Uk SXT Sport model has 18 in (46 cm) alloy wheels, colored seat fabric and dashboard, and a 9-speaker audio system as standard; Early UK models do not have a chrome grille. The UK SXT Sport was available with a Volkswagen 2.0 L diesel engine paired with a six-speed manual transmission. In 2011, Heat, Uptown, and Mainstreet had three available trim caliber levels, going back to the SXT and SXT Plus in 2012. The R/T has a 2.4-liter version of the World engine with a capacity of 172 hp (128 kW), equipped with a CVT2 transmission and programmed by 'AutoStick' function, giving six simulated fixed ratios in a non-offensive manual mode in addition to the standard CVT 'Drive' mode. All-wheel drive was an option on the R/T model until 2009, but only with an automatic transmission. Eighteen-aluminium wheels were standard, while chrome versions were optional. When the CVT2 was launched, the all-wheel-drive CVT2 was the only combination of powertrains available for the R/T. The front-wheel-drive version with the 5-speed T355 manual transmission began production in late summer 2006. The ABS was standard, and the suspension and steering systems were tuned to performance. Externally, R/T features body/chrome door handles (replacing black on other models), chrome side moulding, chrome exhaust tip and front fog headlights in standard form, as well as R/T forgings. Internally, the car came standard with color-keyed fabric seat inserts, while leather seats were an option as on the SXT. The colored dashboard finish was also standard, as well as a leather steering wheel with audio and speed control, as well as a cargo area lid (all options on the SXT). The R/T was discontinued in 2010. Dodge Caliber SRT4 See also: Street and Racing Technology SRT4 Model, which was unveiled at the Chicago Motor Show in February 2006, was a replacement for the original neon-based SRT-4 manufactured by Chrysler's Street and Racing Technology Group. Hatchback SRT4 competed with GTI and Mazdaspeed3. It featured a 2.4 L DOHC 16V turbocharged I4 with dual variable valve time (DVVT). The engine produces 285 hp (213 kW) at 6400 rpm, and (359 N⋅mm) torque at 5600 rpm with the turbocharged TD04HL4S-20. Edmunds.com tested the SRT4 caliber on the chassis dynamometer and received 281 hp (210 kW) and 261 lb⋅ft (354 N⋅m) of torque on wheels. Edmunds called the manufacturer's rating conservative; put more energy on the road than cars costing twice as much. This engine pairs with a six-speed manual transmission Getrag and uses a front-wheel drive transmission. The SRT4 calibre uses the MacPherson front suspension and multi-link rear suspension. The SRT4 came with a large 13.4 in (34 cm) ventilated front disc brake (from the Dodge Charger Police Pack version) with two piston wickets and 11.9 in (30 cm) rear single-piston disc brakes. It also featured four-wheeled abs, with electronic help. Wheels 19 in (48 cm), five-bedroom, SRT stamp, painted aluminum and equipped with Goodyear RSA 225/45R19 tires. Packaging options included polished aluminum wheels, Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires, SIRIUS satellite radio with loud Kicker SRT livin sound, EVIC with performance pages, security alarms and additional paint colors. The SRT4 Caliber was available until 2009.
