We are a well-established rural Year 1 – 8 school located in the with a stable role of 175 students, seven teachers (mixture of experienced and new to the profession) and competent teachers aids. We are a well-resourced, financially sound, rural school with great grounds and fantastic facilities, positive and respectful country kids, an active Board of Trustees and Home & School, along with a very supportive, involved and friendly wider school community. Our school maintains close links to our local marae in Rata. Approximately 20% of our students identify as Maori with most of the remaining students identifying as Pakeha.

We are known predominantly as a Reading, Writing, Maths and Sport school but we offer so much more. Our school grounds are substantial with plenty of asphalt area, an astro-turf court, lots of green space, and we flank the local sportsground and Hunterville Domain. We host an interschool Cross Country and Athletics. We have an active Sports Club which offers children the opportunity to play rugby, football, netball and hockey in the winter, and a Cricket Club for the summer. We hold some fantastic school camps including visits to Raukawa Falls, Mangatepopo, Wellington and the Marlborough Sounds. We stage a major school production every second year and ensure that our students get out and about to attend all sorts of school and education related activities, events and learning throughout the Rangitikei and Manawatu Districts. The successful applicant will have:

• Successful experience as a primary/intermediate school classroom teacher and team leader/AP/DP, school principal or acting-principal

The successful applicant will have demonstrated all or most of the following:

• Superb communication and interpersonal skills • The ability to inspire and build strong relationships with our children, staff and community • Being active and visible within and outside of the school • Passion for what it is to be a rural school • Empowering leadership and the ability to articulate an exciting vision for learning to all members of the school community • The ability to decision-make with student achievement and well-being at the forefront • Strong knowledge of current pedagogy, curriculum and assessment • Experience and skills in school strategy, finance, property and asset management

Job Description

The Principal’s role is to lead and manage the school in the achievement of its vision and mission in a manner consistent with the school charter, the strategic plan, Board policies, and all statutory and regulatory requirements. The Principal is employed by and is responsible to the Board of Trustees for the effective day-to- day operation of the school and for all other delegated responsibilities. The Principal, as the chief advisor to the Board of Trustees, will consult with the Board regarding policy and the review, development and implementation of the strategic plan and the Principal will prepare the annual operational plans and budgets for Board approval. The Principal is a full Board member in his/her own right sharing with other Trustees’ the collective responsibility for the governance of the school.

The Principal’s management role involves four main areas of responsibility. In each of these areas the Principal will implement Board approved policies and prepare the supporting procedures to ensure that these policies are effectively implemented.

• Hunterville is a picturesque, rural community situated on SH1 and is situated just 25km from Marton, 45km from Feilding, and 60km from and Whanganui. There is a pre-school playcentre, rugby, squash, tennis, golf, cricket and bowls clubs, two petrol stations, a Four Square, a plumber and electrician and other service businesses, two local pubs, a town swimming pool, a range of shops and cafes, and the school bus service runs to our school and to in Marton as well. The Rangitikei District is a diverse region offering many sporting, recreational and cultural experiences.
