Travel back in time to 1864 when prospectors were anxiously seeking to strike it rich with the discovery of gold. Four such prospectors named the Four Georgians did just that in a gulch off Prickly Pear Creek that they named Last Chance Gulch and birthed the area we know as the state capital of Helena, Montana. That empty gulch quickly grew into a bustling city and the “Queen City of the Rockies” flourished. In 1875, Helena became the state capital and is a culturally rich city that has activities to appease every type of person. Last Chance Gulch has been transformed into Helena’s Main Street and is the foundation of a beautiful outdoor walking mall with unique boutiques and wonderful little coffee shops and restaurants.
