2 June 2019 | Williamsburg Settlement Williamsburg Settlement News ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING The 2019 Annual General Meeting of members of the Williamsburg Settlement Maintenance Association was held on April 16th at our Clubhouse. The main business of the meeting was the election of two directors to fill the expiring term of Jim Calvert and the vacancy left when Chase Weir resigned late last year.

We are fortunate that Jim was prepared to seek a further term and resident Larry Barrow had previously declared his candidacy for the open position. Larry is a retired firefighter/paramedic. He tells us that he has been married to his lovely wife Susan for 33 years and they have 3 grown children and 2 grandchildren. Larry enjoys spending time with his family and has done a lot of charity work with terminally ill children. In his spare time he likes to fish, hunt and ride his Harley! Larry moved to the Settlement a year ago and is excited about being able to contribute to the neighborhood in which he and Susan have made their “forever” home.

Both Jim and Larry were elected by acclamation. Let’s congratulate and thank them for being prepared to serve our community for their 3-year terms.

As the one-year terms of the Association Officers expire at the annual meeting it has to be followed by a regular Board meeting to elect new officers. Chris Cox retired as President to enable him to concentrate on the ongoing successful Community Events program. He was thanked for his service as President and Ed Shipley was appointed to this role with CO Holt becoming Vice President. Dave Ellis continues as Association Secretary and Treasurer.

MAY YARD-OF-THE-MONTH Yard of the Month for May 2019 is awarded to Mike and Kathy Morrow of 22419 Vobe Court.

The Morrows have lived in the Settlement for just over 40 years. They have one son Jason and one granddaughter named Skylar. While Kathy is more of a stay-at-home, work-in-the-yard type, Mike keeps busy running his Westside Auto business here in the Katy area. Their yard contains some very uniquely designed landscaping and flowerbeds. The front yard consists of a total of 2 large beds along the house with another 5 located in different areas of their yard. The well-manicured beds, which are all planted, watered and maintained by Kathy herself, contain a large variety of different plants ranging from Aztec grass, assorted day lilies, various colored roses, bird of paradise, flax grass, gardenias, sago palms and even some ginger. Placed within these beds and plants are several bird baths, multiple angel cherub statues and a few other yard decorations. The Morrow’s driveway is lined with hibiscus plants, knockout roses, a white crepe myrtle and a rare black diamond crepe myrtle. Kathy says having the quietness, great neighbors, location and a wide variety of shopping locations so close with easy access makes the Settlement one of the best neighborhoods in which to live. Congratulations Mike and Kathy Morrow for being awarded Yard of the Month for May 2019. The beauty you’ve continued to add over these years is greatly appreciated.

Williamsburg Settlement | June 2019 3 OFFICE SUITE FOR LEASE AN OVERLOOKED MAINTENANCE in Copper eld area FEE PAYMENT OPTION A reminder for those who every year have difficulty in making the January 1st Association maintenance fee payment there is an option that you may want to consider. Although at first blush it may seem counter-intuitive, with a bit of advance planning it has considerable advantages. This is to get “ahead of the curve” and pre-pay your fees. At no cost to you, you can make regular (or irregular!) payments of any value either by check or online via the Crest website thus building a pre-paid balance. So when the invoice for the following year arrives you will have a part or all of it already paid. And you will avoid all fees and interest charges associated with a Payment Agreement; you will be able to get your pool tags and Includes 5-6 individual o ce spaces, rent the clubhouse; you won’t get your trash cut off for late payment kitchen, supply room, reception area, storage closet, bathrooms. and you will never end up with large collection bills from the Association Attorney. What’s not to love about this?

For more details see the note on our website or contact Laura Kane our accountant at Crest.

EXCESSIVE SPEEDING NEAR THE SCHOOL Residents who live close to the school have described the roads leading to it as sometimes resembling raceways as parents hurry to deliver and then pick up their children. The streets within our subdivision have a 30 mph speed limit, which is often exceeded. But even 30 mph within our neighborhood is very fast when the streets are busy with vehicular traffic as well as kids riding bicycles and walking to school. Please think about how you would feel for the rest of your life if in your haste to shave a couple of minutes from your drive time you were responsible for causing injury or even death to a child. Too horrible to think about. Please drive responsibly. Thanks.

NEXT WSMA BOARD MEETING The next meeting of the WSMA Board of Directors will be held in the clubhouse on Hoyt Lane at 5:30 PM on Tuesday, June 18, 2019. If you wish to be placed on the agenda, please contact Cindy Bojé of Crest no later than the Tuesday preceding the meeting date.
