THE SERIES: The Saints and Cats first met in 1926-27 with SLU taking a 3-1 win. The series resumed in 1971-72 and Ver- mont has been on the Saint schedule ever since, although the two teams did not play in 1999-2000 when Vermont sus- pended its season partway into the year. The Saints hold a 47-39-3 overall lead in the series and are 28-18-1 in Canton while Vermont has a 20-15-2 record in Burlington. SLU is 4-1-1 against Vermont in neutral ice games and 8-1-0 against the Cats in post-season play. Vermont has won five straight in the series since a 2-1 SLU win in Burlington Dec. 17, 2011. SAINTS IN THE PROS: Brandon Bollig (Calgary Flames) and Mike McKenna (Arizona Coyotes) were the only Saints playing in the NHL last season with a number of players playing in the AHL, ECHL or other professional leagues. Rich Peverley recently retired as a player in Dallas after being sidelined by an irregular heartbeat. Former Saint captain and Pittsburgh GM Ray Shero is now GM at New Jersey where long-time scout Paul Castron, a teammate of Shero’s is now director of Amateur Scouting. Dan LaPerriere is a pro scout for the Colorado Avalanche, Mike Barnett is senior advisor to the president and general manager of the New York Rangers and is a former Pheonix Coyotes GM, Mark Leach is a scout for the Detroit Red Wings, and Mark Bonneau is a vice president with the Ottawa Senators. Teddy Dent is the coach of the Chicago’s top minor league club in Rockford while former defenseman Matt Macdonald took over as head coach of the last season. Former Saint player Jamie Baker, who had a 10-year NHL career, is the color commentator and SLU graduate Dan Rousa- nowsky is the play-by-play announcer for the San Jose Sharks. Mike Keenan became the first coach to win the Stanley Cup and the Kontinental Hockey League championship when he won the Gagarin Cup with the Metallurg Magnitorgosk team in Russia in 2013-14. Peverley became the first Saint to have his name engraved on the Stanley Cup as a playing member of the championship team when the Bruins won the cup in June 2011. Bollig joined him (along with Dent) in 2012-13 when the Blackhawks won the cup.

IN THE AHL AND ECHL; Three former Saints are active in the American Hockey League and three others are currently on rosters in the ECHL. Greg Carey is playing for the Springfield Falcons, his brother Matt is with the Iowa Wilad and Mike McKenna is goaltender for the Portland Pirates in the AHL while Kyle Flanagan and Gunnar Hughes are teammates with Adirondak and Zach Miskovic is playing for the in the ECHL.

He was plus-three for the season and had five special teams goals, three on the power play and two shorthanded. In two seasons at Youngstown he scored 11 goals and had 19 assists in 123 games. He attended Ursuline High School and played lacrosse, helping his team to a state championship. The team went 33-21-1 and allowed less than three goals per game in 2012-13. The son of Beny and Janet Masella, he attended Deerfield Academy and played hockey for the team which won the Deerfield Academy Cup. 2013-14: Made his collegiate debut in game one against Maine and had an assist. He scored five goals and had 14 assists. The son of Mike and Cathy Graham, he also played golf at Kent. 2013-14 Mike made his first collegiate appearance in game two of the Maine series. He scored his first collegiate goal against Union and it was the game winner as the Saints were the last team to beat the Dutchmen prior to their run to the national title. He played in 18 games as a rookie, missing several due to injury. 2014-15: Scored his lone goal of the year in a 5-4 win over Miami. Had three assists in 23 appearances. 2015-16: Made his 2015-16 debut at UNH and has played in each of the lastfive. Earned his first point of the year with an assist against Union. 7 • Gavin Bayreuther • Jr. • Defenseman • 6-1 • 195 • Canaan, NH • Fargo (USHL): A defenseman who was named to the USHL All Rookie team while playing for the Fargo Force, Gavin Bayreuther scored nine goals and had 24 assists while helping his team to the Western Conference championship. He earned All New England first team honors in both hockey and lacrosse while playing for the Holderness School in 2012 and also played soccer for Holderness. He is the son of John and Jessica Bayreuther. 2013-14: The ECAC Co-Rookie of the Year and a second-team All ECAC defenseman, Gavin was one of the outstanding young defensemen in the nation in his rookie season. He was third in the country in scoring by defensemen with nine goals and 27 assists, and the top-scoring rookie defenseman and fifth overall among all rookies. He had six power play goals among his nine for the season and assisted on three game winning goals. 2014-15: Selected as a pre-season ECAC All Star and is the only sophomore among that group...one of two sophomores selected as one of college hockey’s impact defensemen for 2014-15. Was the second leading scorer among Saint blue lines with six goals and 11 assists for 17 points and scored four game winning goals. He was a member of the state championship team at Detroit Cath- olic Central and a first-team All State selection in 2012 and a second team choice in 2011. He also played baseball. He is the son of Paul and Jill Gluchowski. 2014-15: Named to the ECAC All Rookie Team and was eighth overall among defense- men in scoring with four goals and 12 assists for 16 points. Scored his first collegiate point with an assist in game one at RIT and scored his first collegiate goal at Niagara in game two. Missed the next eight with an injury, but did not miss a start the rest of the way. THEY’VE BEEN THERE: Saint coaches Greg Carvel and Mike Hurlbut know what the Clarkson rivalry is all about. Carvel and Hurlbut are two of nine former Saint players who have both played and coached against Clarkson. Carvel and Bernie McKinnon are the two former players who have become head coaches while Hurlbut and former men’s assistants Chris Wells, Paul Flanagan, Don Vaughan, Randy Sexton, Bob Prier and Bill Wilkinson are the others who have both played and coached against the Knights. Carvel scored his first two collegiate goals in a 5-4 Saint win at Walker Arena in November of 1989. The Nov. 13 win was the first for Carvel at Appleton Arena over the Knights.

9 • Alex Hagen • Sr • Forward • 5-11 • 185 • Bronxvville, NY • Surrey (BCHL): The first second generation Saint player since Andre Dalbec, who played in the 1984-85 and 1985-86 seasons, Alex is the son of former Saint forward Kevin Hagen ‘82 and his wife Caroline. Kevin was a three-year regular for the Saints. Alex scored 43 points in 57 games for the Surrey Eagles in the British Columbia Hockey League prior to joining the Saints The MVP at Choate-Rosemary Hall in 2009, he had 20 goals and 23 assists for Surrey. 2012-13: Made his collegiate debut at Western Michigan...he scored his first col- legiate point with an assist at Northeastern...he was injured in the Colgate game returned to action against Vermont. He played in 34 of 38 as a rookie. 2013-14: Alex was named the Saints’ Most Improved Player for 2013-14 after scoring four goals and assisting on five in 32 games as a sophomore. He scored his first collegiate goal in game two of the Northeast- ern series and had his first multi-point game with a goal and an assist. Recorded his first collegiate post-season point with an assist on the game winner in game two of the Brown series. 2014-15: Played in 18 games including all three playoff games. The son of Kirk and Cindy Dahl, he was a Kurt Hammer Award nominee and also played baseball and football in high school. 2013-14: The winner of the Kevin Dougherty Scholarship for the class of 2017, Alex had a strong rookie season for the Saints. Drew played soccer and golf and earned rookie of the year honors in hockey at the Gunnery. He scored three power play goals, two shorthanded and three game winners as the Monarchs went 38-4-2 to win the Northern Division and went on to win the playoff championship. He was Rookie of the Year in the AJHL in 2010. Tommy also played lacrosse for Londonderry High School. 2011-12: Tommy Thompson scored his first collegiate goal to open the scoring in the Michigan game. He scored the fifth Saint goal at Brown for his second of the year. He was on the roster at the University of Minnesota in 2012-13, but did not play in any games. He has two years of collegiate eligibility for the Saints. He was a member of the Minnesota state champion high school team at Benilde St. Margarets and is that school’s second leading scorer and first all time in assists. He attended three national development camps in hockey. Also a standout in lacrosse, he led the team in scoring in three of his four seasons on the team and was first team All State, helping the team to two state titles. He received the Athletic Director’s Award as the best male athlete. He is the son of Janice Steinhauser and Ron Horn. 2014-15: Made his first appearance in the Miami series and scored on his first shot as a Saint with a power play goal to open the scoring in game one. Assisted on the game winner at Yale. Had a goal in each game against Yale and Brown, scoring the tying goal on a power play with 1:13 left against Yale. His goal against Brown and Sean McGovern’s pass to set it up was a NCAA Play of the Week. He scored the game-winner, his first of the year unassisted against RPI and had two assists in the Union game. Opened the scoring against Dartmouth with his sixth of the year. Scored his first career post season goal in game two against RPI. 2015-16: The only player to score more than one goal for the Saints on opening weekend, he had one each night. He earned a CISAA Championship with the Nichols School were he was on the All Tournament teams at Northwood and St. Fran- cis. He also played football and baseball at Nichols. 29 • Kyle MacDonald • Sr. • Goaltender • 6-0 • 175 • Hanover, MA • Bay State (EJHL): The Boston Herald Goalie of the Year and a three-time Catholic Conference All Star while playing at Xaverian Brothers High School, Kyle MacDonald also played junior hockey for the Bay State Breakers in the EJHL. While he was limited to five games by injury in his final junior season, compiling a 2.59 goals against average and a .919 save percentage, he had a 2.63 goals against average, a .927 save percentage and went 10-7-1 in 20 games in 2010-11 for the Breakers. He led his high school team to three Super 8 appearances, the first in school history, was was captain of the Eastern Massachusetts champion baseball team as a senior. He is the son of Andy and Mary Beth MacDonald. 2012-13: Kyle MacDonald played in three games in a backup role as a rookie.He had a 4.45 goals against average in 40:13 of ice time and had a .769 save percentage.
