The Stal- lions could only manage a half- dozen points in the first and fourth quarters. However a 30-point second stanza and 23-point third frame were enough to give South Co- lumbus a 65-50 win over West Columbus. Both teams struggled of- fensively in the first period. The Vikings held a 9-6 lead af- ter the first quarter.. The Stal- lions were as hot as the gym in the second period, hitting five three-pointers. Ten different Stallions scored in the period. The Vikings were no slouches on the offensive end either, but their 19 points in the period left them with a 36-28 halftime deficit. A 23 to 10 scoring advantage for South Columbus stretched the lead to 59-38 after three periods. The Stallion offense went dormant again in the fi- nal frame, but the Vikings were in too deep a hole to take ad- vantage. The Stallions claimed their first win of the season 65- 50. Twelve Stallion players scored. Shiquan Conyers and Kendrick Green led them with 10 points each. Jacob Baldwin tallied 12 points for the Vi- kings. South Columbus is now 1-3 overall and 1-1 in TRC play. West Columbus is 2-3 and 0-1 in conference action.

In the girls game, Hailey Sarvis canned a three-point field goal on South Columbus’ first possession and the Lady stallions Stallions never trailed in their 50-32 victory over the West Columbus girls. The Stal- lion lead fluctuated between 4 and 8 points until they pulled away in the fourth period, out- scoring the Vikings 20-6. Sarvis had 22 points for first-year Coach Megan Storm’s squad. Calia Turbev- ille added 12 points. The Stal- lions were 16 of 26 from the charity stripe. Turbeville, who along with Sarvis, played a big role in breaking the Vikings full-court pressure, was suc- cessful on 8 of 13 free throws. Lindsey Lewis, Haley Rising and Alli Cribb all had good games in the post for South. Tah’nijah McKoy led West Columbus with 11 points. The Vikings could not find the range from the outside despite several open looks.
