Prior to Northern, he spent three seasons as the Head Coach of Dakota State University in Madison, SD. In 2013, Berry coached All-NSIC Second Team selection Robbie Rocamora. The junior became the first Wolves student-athlete to be an All-Conference performer since Adam Kampsen in 2008. Berry was voted by his peers as the 2014 NSIC Coach of the Year after he led Northern State to 28 wins, which ties the 1974 and ‘76 teams for the most in program history. The Wolves’ 21 conference victories in 2014 are a program record and their sixth-place finish is the highest since winning the league in 1993. Near the end of the 2014 season, NSU clinched its first bid to the NSIC Tournament since 1997. As a team, the Wolves hit .298 on the year and had an ERA of 5.07. The Berry File 2015 proved to be another great year for NSU baseball under the direction of Berry. The Wolves made their second straight conference tournament appearance, and grabbed the first conference tournament victories in school history. A total of ten single season individual records were broken on the year. Berry coached Jack • Named NSIC Coach Schmidt, to a First-Team NSIC Tournament selection. of the Year in 2014 In his sixth season at the helm, Berry coached four Wolves to All-Conference performances. Nick Hoffard and Jack Schmidt were named to the NSIC first team, while Matt Stubbs was named to the second team and Colton • School Record 21 Boucher earned NSIC Gold Glove. Junior Nick Hoffard was also named the leagues Newcomer of the Year, after conference wins in holding a 1.33 ERA in league action and tying the NSU single season record for seven wins. The Wolves also 2014 tallied their third straight NSIC Tournament appearance and third straight 20-plus win season. In 2017 the Wolves again notched four All-Conference honorees, including three first team selections in Luke • School Record 28 Chevalier, Lucas Lorenz, and Jack Schmidt. Senior pitcher Nick Hoffard was also named to the NSIC gold glove season wins in 2014 team. • Record of 144-175 Before arriving at NSU, Dean was the assistant baseball coach, recruiting coordinator and academic supervisor at Mayville State University from 2002-06 under current head coach Scott Berry. During summer of 2004, he was at NSU the co-head coach for fourth place USA Athletes International team. • 4 Straight 20+ win In 2000-02, Dean was the head baseball coach at Huron University. He led the team to a national playoffs berth seasons in 2014-17 in 2002. Dean coached high school baseball teams for a total of eight years in Washburn and West Fargo, N.D. He led American Legion baseball teams in LaMoure, West Fargo, Devils Lake and Jamestown, N.D. In 1995, he was named to North Dakota Legion Baseball “Coach of the Year.” In addition, he also coached at the college level at Dartmouth College, N.H. and Concordia, Minn. as an assistant baseball coach. Dean graduated from Mayville State University with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and minor in coaching. While at Mayville State, he lettered in baseball and football all four years. In baseball, he played on four conference championship teams and was a team captain. In 2006, he received his master’s degree in Higher Education Administration at the University of North Dakota. Dean resides in the Aberdeen area with his wife Julie and their children Abby and Jackson. Ryan Jerle Assistant Coach| 8th Season Ryan Jerle enters his eighth season at Northern State University as Baseball assistant under Dean Berry in 2017-18. Jerle helped lead the Wolves to their third straight NSIC Conference Tournament appearance in 2016. The Wolves tied a school record in wins (28) in 2014 and won 27 games in 2015. He also coached Nick Hoffard to the NSIC Newcomer of the Year award in 2016, after the junior tallied a league low 1.33 ERA and matched the single season school record with seven wins. Hoffard was also named to the All-NSIC first team. Prior to being at NSU he served as an Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for Dakota State University (DSU). He was at DSU during two different coaching eras, Pat Dolan 2003-2007 and Dean Berry. In 2007, the Trojans set a school record with 39 wins and were nationally ranked, 7th in NAIA Baseball. Underneath the direction of Dolan and Berry, DSU flaunted 8 All-Americans and 52 All-Conference selections. 2003 and 2005 Dakota State reached the Super Regional Tournament. Professional contracts were offered to six players from DSU. Pitcher Nick Mutz was selected in the ninth Round of the 2011 MLB Draft by the Angels. Jerle is currently a Marketing Consultant for Dakota Broadcasting in Aberdeen with his longtime girlfriend Christi and daughter, Harper. 2 - NSUWOLVES.COM COACHING STAFF - 2018 NSU BASEBALL Nolan Parks Graduate Assistant| 2nd Season Nolan Parks enters his second season as a graduate assistant coach with the Wolves, and third season overall in 2017-18. The Tulock, Calif. native’s primary responsibilities include working with the hitters and infielders. Prior to his work at NSU, Parks coached with Mark de la Motte and the Turlock High School baseball team from 2013-15. Parks was named the head coach for the Aberdeen Smittys legion baseball team for the summer of 2017. Collegiate, Parks was a member of both the Monterey Peninsula College and University of Jamestown teams. With MPC he was a second team All-Conference selection in 2013, and was a member of the first Coast Conferrence championship team in 42 years finishing 23-15 overall. The Jimmies were regular season conference champions in both of his two seasons on the squad, including a 2014 NAIA Tournament playoff berth. Parks received his Bachelor of Arts degree in History from the University of Jamestown in May of 2015. He is currently working on his master’s degree in Sport Performance and Leadership here at NSU. Calvin Ellis Graduate Assistant| 2nd Season Calvin Ellis enters his second season as a graduate assistant coach with the Wolves in the fall of 2017. Ellis joins the Wolves after coaching stops at Northwestern Oklahoma State and Northeastern Oklahoma A&M. He was also the head coach of the 2016 Lockhaven Lighting in the Mid-Atlantic Collegiate League. He guided the team to a first place finish in the regular season, while five Lightning players were selected for the MACL All-Star Game. As the assistant coach at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, Ellis worked with hitters, outfielders, and catchers, where he designed and implemented a new strength and conditioning program, as well as performed first base coaching duties during games. Coach Ellis served the 2014-2015 season as a volunteer assistant at Northwestern Oklahoma State University under 11 time coach of the year Sam Carel. He played collegiately at Northwestern Oklahoma State and Northeastern Oklahoma A&M. Anders Dzurak Graduate Assistant| 1st Season Anders Dzurak enters his first season with the Northern State University baseball team as a graduate assistant pitching coach. He joins the Wolves after two seasons as the pitching coach at his alma mater, St. Olaf College. Prior to his work with the oles, Dzurak made assistant coaching stops at Milwaukee School of Engineering and Macalester College. Dzurak also boasts experience in the legion ranks as the head coach of the 2017 Wayzata Legion #2 in Minnesota. He was an assistant coach for the legion #1 squad in 2016 as they finished third in the Central Plains Regional. Dzurak began his coaching career as an assistant with the Excelsior Legion program from 2012-14. Collegiately, he was a 4-year starter for St. Olaf as a pitcher. Dzurak played with the Duluth Huskies and the Green Bay Bullfrogs of the Northwoods League in the summer of 2011. Dzurak is a 2013 graduate of St. Olaf College with a bachelors of arts in Social Studies Education. He is currently working towards his masters in Sport Performance and Leadership from NSU. Sam Boisner Volunteer Assistant| 1st Season Sam Boisner enters his first season with the Northern State baseball program in 2018. Boisner joins the Wolves after two seasons with the University of Illinois-Springfield. He worked with both the hitters and catchers, and was in charge of the recruiting effort. In his two seasons with the Prairie Stars, UIS qualified for the GLVC Tournament each year. The Albertville, Minn. native played collegiately at Iowa Southeastern CC and St. Cloud State. He was a member of the 2013 and 2015 Central Region qualifying teams for the Huskies and hit .317 with 33 hits, 19 RBI, and a .404 slugging percentage. He received his bachelor’s degree in Health and Physical Education from St. Cloud State. Jared Meiklejohn Volunteer Assistant| 1st Season Jared Meiklejohn enters his first season as a volunteer assistant coach for Northern State in 2018.

The Dickey, N.D. native’s primary responsibility is to work with the infielders. He coached in LaMoure (North Dakota) as the infielders and hitting coach for Legion and Babe Ruth programs in the summer of 2016-17.

Collegiate, Meiklejohn played at Valley City State University from 2013-2017. He was a 4-year starter, primarily at shortstop for the Vikings. He was a member of the 2015 team that broke the school record with 32 wins and helped break five more team records. As a senior, he was named NSAA first team All-Conference, NSAA Gold Glove Winner, and VCSU Male Athlete of the Year. Meiklejohn posted a career batting average of .326 with 202 hits, and 37 doubles.

Meiklejohn received his Bachelor of Exercise Science and Sport Management from Valley City State University in May of 2017.
