For starters, there are six indoor basketball/volleyball courts, six rac- quetball courts, and indoor and outdoor pools. Also featured in the facility is an indoor track, a cardio-vascular room, a climbing wall, a weight room, an aerobics room, and an indoor soccer and roller hockey area. Indoor activities are not the only ones available at the Campus Recre- ation Center. Outside are a sun deck and three outdoor sand volleyball courts along with the aforementioned pool. Students can also join a myriad of recreational clubs and sign up for vari- ous off-campus activities such as whitewater raft- ing and hiking. University Library At a cost of $32.75 million, the new University Library is the crown jewel of Middle Tennessee’s building projects over the past 10 years. The library, which opened in January 1999, spans 250,000 square feet and is capable of housing 800,000 volumes. The state-of-the-art design features study seating for 2,500 students and has 350 public access computers that are connected to a variety of networks for research. In fact, the scope of the library’s network is so expansive that over 150 miles of cable connects the computer terminals to the network. If electronic research doesn’t lead to answers, the library subscribes to nearly 3,500 journals and other periodicals that are readily available for student use. Fifty-three microtext readers and 14 microtext readers with printers are accessible by students in the periodical section. Space in the library has also been reserved for classroom usage and group study area. One visit to the University Library convinces students that the support for their academic pursuits is unmatched in the area.
