Louisiana Newspaper Project Parish Indexes Compiled by Linda Schneider and Sheila Lee Louisiana Newspaper Project Special Collections LSU Libraries Baton Rouge, LA 70803 Updated July 2012 CONTENTS Introduction…………………………………………………………………………………….. iii List of Parishes ………………………………………………………………………………… iv-v List of Cities and Towns……………………………………………………………………….. 1-3 Parish Index …………………………………………………………………………………… 1-105 INTRODUCTION This Louisiana Newspaper Project Parish/Chronological Indexes and Louisiana Family Trees include more than 1760 Louisiana newspapers that are inventoried and cataloged by the Louisiana Newspaper Project (LNP) for Louisiana repositories since 1986. It consists of four parts: Pt. I: Parish index Pt. II: Chronological index Pt. III: Indexes for: 1) Louisiana Civil War Newspapers. 2) Louisiana French Newspapers. 3) Louisiana Black newspapers. Pt. IV: Louisiana Newspaper Family Trees Parish index is arranged alphabetically by 64 parishes of Louisiana. Under each parish, newspapers are then chronologically listed by the extant year of publication (the earliest extant issues). One asterisk at the end of the title indicates it’s the current journal of parish, double asterisks for the previous journal; asterisk at the end of the date indicates the extant issue(s) are not found in any Louisiana repositories but at other state’s library or at some publisher’s office or private collector. Chronological index is arranged chronologically by extant year of publication. Each newspaper also has the same information as the Parish index. This index is designed as an easy and quick reference to find Louisiana extant newspapers that were published in various parishes. It is also available at the LNP website: The WebIndex of the Louisiana Newspaper Project: http://www.lib.lsu.edu/special/lnp/. For the detail bibliographical and local holdings information at each repository please see the Louisiana Newspaper Project Printout (3rd ed. 2001) or access to the national online OCLC Connexion Browser, the OCLC First Search: WorldCat and the Library of Congress’ Chronicling America: http://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/ for the most updated information. Newspaper Family Trees provide graphic relations for newspapers with more complicated publishing history, like title changes, merging, etc. It is also available at the LNP website: Family trees for Louisiana Newspapers http://www.lib.lsu.edu/special/lnp/ft/. Sheila Lee July 2012 iii LIST OF PARISHES Today there are 64 parishes in Louisiana. Under each parish listed are cities or towns that have newspapers included in this index.
