As we drive up the road to the Parador, the views over the city of Jaen and the beautiful countryside of Andalusia are breathtaking. The Parador de Jaén was originally an arabian fortress, raised as a castle after the conquest of the city by Ferdinand III of Castile, called the Saint, in 1246 and stands high above the city atop Santa Catalina Hill. The monumental appearance of its interior is maintained in the spectacular cross vault 20 meters high in the main function room, the dining room and the guest rooms with incredible panoramic views of the city. Late in the afternoon, we will start a walking tour visiting the highlights of this fascinating andalucian city. Jaén's Barrio Antiguo (Old Quarter) has preserved the vestiges of a spectacular city. Nuestra Señora de la Asunción Cathedral; the Arab baths, the largest and most important in Europe; the Provincial Fine Arts Museum; and San Lorenzo Arch, recently declared a National Monument, are just some of the sights we will visit. (B) DAY 4 (Sunday May 8, 2022) JAEN – LA ALHAMBRA - JAEN (102km 1h 02m) After breakfast, we will visit one of the most beautiful man-made structures and also the most visited attraction in Spain, The Alhambra. Discover the glory of the sultans of ancient Al-Andalus and experience the magical world of a thousand and one nights in the courtyards and gardens of the Alhambra. The impressive palace of the Alhambra and the Generalife are located on a red hill, which dominates the city and the Granada valley. Next to the palaces and on the slopes of the Cerro del Sol is the Generalife summer residence. The picturesque surrounding gardens invite tranquility and peace and a variety of flowers enchant visitors with their fragrance. In the afternoon, return to the Parador de Jaén. (B) DAY 5 (Monday May 9, 2022) JAEN – CORDOBA - CARMONA (208km 2h 13m) Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning, departure to Córdoba. Walk through the Jewish quarter with its synagogue, its flowery patios and narrow streets. Even today in Seville, which is located on the banks of the Guadalquivir River, you can see many places that are witnesses of the city's rich Arab past and its splendid function as a port for trade with America. It is almost impossible to express the beauty of Andalusia's capital in words. The city is home to some of the most spectacular sights in Spain, including the Cathedral with the Giralda, Torre de Oro (Golden Tower), Triana neighborhood, Plaza de España and Reales Alcázares palace complex. All these highlights will be visited on a tour accompanied by our guide. Before leaving Seville, you will experience one of the most typical spanish dances, the Flamenco. At the sunset we will continue our tour to Zafra, a small commercial town in the Province of Badajoz where the Castle highlights the city center. Our next dream lodge is the Parador de Zafra, a former majestic castle called Palace of the Dukes of Feria, whose construction started in 1437. Use the gates in the outside walls to go to the lovely city of Zafra. One of the most beautiful entrances is through Jerez Gate, where narrow Clavel Street will captivate you. Framed by an arch and decorated with tiles, small balconies bedecked with flowers overlook the street, creating the perfect picture postcard. Strolling through Grande and Chica (Big and Small) squares, the shops along Sevilla Street, the collegiate church, and amazing churches such as Candelaria are just some of the attractions in this town, which is also known as La Sevilla Chica (Little Seville). At a given time, transfer by private bus to Merida and visit the city. The history of Mérida is closely related to the expansion of the Roman Empire in the Iberian Peninsula. The city was founded in 25 BC under the reign of Emperor Augustus, who gave the city its original name, Emerita Augusta. The glorious past of Mérida is still reflected today in one of the best- preserved archaeological complexes and monuments in Spain. The traces of the Roman era are found in almost every corner of the city, the Roman theater and the amphitheater being the most famous and impressive buildings. Trujillo is blessed with all the charm of a historic city and the beauty and serenity provided by the passing of time. This is a place you will love discovering. Our dream lodge tonight will be the lovely Parador of Trujillo, occupying the former convent of Santa Clara and preserving the peaceful and calm atmosphere of the convent buildings. of Castilla-Leon for five centuries, boasts a masterpiece of Spanish Gothic architecture: the cathedral of Burgos, declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Visiting the cathedral, you will find a long list of exceptional works of art in its interior. These include the starry dome that covers the tombs of El Cid and Doña Jimena, the choir, the sarcophagi and the Golden Staircase. After visiting the Cathedral you will have time to explore the old medieval quarters of Burgos. Our guide will be there to help you. You will continue to Covarrubias, a lovely village where San Cosme y San Damián Collegiate Church and Doña Sancha and Doña Urraca squares invite travelers to enjoy a leisurely visit, imagining that time has stood still in the Middle Ages and that little has changed since the year 987, when the town was founded. After a short visit, our next stop will be the Ribera del Duero, the birthplace of one of the most acclaimed Designations of Origin for wine. Something that amazes in this region is its charismatic cuisine. Upon arrival, we wil visit a typical local restaurant where you can taste one of its best main courses such as suckling lamb baked in a wood-fired oven, soused trout and cod stew. For dessert, you will try the delicious "yemas" (a sweet made with egg yolks and sugar), fresh cheese with honey and walnuts, or caramel almonds. After enjoying these delicacies, we wil visit a wineyard and taste some of the wines produced in the region. The Ribera has a common denominator: the Tempranillo grape. Under the name Tinta del País or Tinta Fina, it has made known a native fruit of Ribera del Duero, providing the colour, aroma and body that make these wines unrepeatable. As well as Tempranillo, the Governing Council allows other varieties: reds like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec and Garnacha Tinta or the only authorised white: Albillo or Blanca del País. Six grape varieties for an exceptional and unmistakeable flavour, marking the quality of every bottle. Continue to Sigüenza, the last stop and the cherry on the cake. In Sigüenza you will enjoy a real journey back in time as you visit the cathedral, with its famous sepulcro del Doncel (tomb of the youth), chapels and cemetery. The Parador de Sigüenza is an imposing medieval castle situated in an Arab fortress built atop a Roman settlement. It was built in the VIII Century after the muslime invasion. From the outside it resembles a medieval fortress, with towers and a Romanesque portico and a magnificent rose window. These are the perfect accommodations, inviting you to enjoy an ancient city, where the stones speak of history, tradition and legend. The hotel's traditional Castilian furnishings are displayed with fine taste in the spacious, welcoming guest rooms, making you feel as if you are lodging in a real palace. Within the thick stone walls there is a cobbled courtyard, and a stately dining room where we will have our farewell dinner.
