Al Toon 2002 Hall of Fame Inductee

Al Toon has been described by many as one of the greatest wide receivers in college and the NFL. Al played at Menchville High School where he was a dangerous offensive threat to score on any play. Al was also the VHSL Group AAA State Champion in the triple jump souring 48'-3 1/2 inches. He had an outstanding collegiate career at the University of Wisconsin from 1982-1984. In 1983 he set the current school record with 252 receiving yards in one game. He is tied for first with 9 receptions in one season. He is the all-time career leader in receptions with 131; and all-time career leader in reception yards with 2,103. In 1984 he received the school's Jimmy Demetral Most Valuable Player Award and the 1984 Big Ten Athlete of the Year award for football and track.

In 1985 Al was selected the 10th overall pick by the in the NFL Draft. He was picked ahead of , who was selected 16th. Al only played eight years, but during that short period he established himself as a premier receiver. In the 1985 Al tied the Hula Bowl record with 10 receptions. Football is a dangerous profession and according to Al he sustained thirteen concussions in eight years which lead to him cutting his career short and retiring on November 27, 1992. At the time of his retirement he was second behind the legendary on the all-time Jets career receptions list with 517. He was third all-time in career yards with 6,605, and fifth all-time for yards from scrimmage with 6,612. He ended his career with an average of 12.8 yards per catch and 31 .
