The Complete History of Bettendorf Football: 1951 ‐ Present The Complete History of Bettendorf Football: 1951 ‐ Present An official production of www.bettendorffootball.com Edition 3.0 – May 6, 2011 © 2002‐2011 © www.bettendorffootball.com Edition 3.0 – May 6, 2011 © www.bettendorffootball.com Edition 3.0 – May 6, 2011 3rd Edition Overview First things first: simply put, this is anyone who ever has been a fan of Bettendorf Football. Certainly, it’s for all the coaches and players—past and present—who have shaped a dynasty with their commitment, discipline, and hard work. Finally, it’s for the players of tomorrow who simply need to do one thing: “Uphold the tradition.” This project initially began in July of 2007 and after pestering Coach Habenicht to write a Special Introduction—which he did on November 22, 2007—continued for the next year and a half. Finally, just before January 1st, 2009, the 1st Edition was finally completed. Two editions late, I asked Coach Scott to write his take on the 32-years he spent coaching BETT football and that is now included in the ebook. What exactly was done? Well, in short, all the information and data from the website was transferred into book form to preserve all the research and work that’s been done. Basically, if an EMP explodes or the site goes offline (for whatever reason), history has been preserved ala paper as opposed to digitally. Since the publication of that 1st Edition, more information has been updated. So, does that mean this 3rd Edition is perfect? Of course not—but every attempt possible was made to make it as error-free as possible. However, in the process of taking the website and putting it into book form, numerous errors from the site were discovered—spelling, capitalization, misprints of names, etc.—and such that, those errors have now been fixed. Of course, as the saying goes, “One tends to lose the trees in the forest” so it’ll be no surprise that there are probably still little errors here and there; point them out and they’ll be fixed for the next edition. More importantly—and although you’ll read this again—please note that any omission—be it an award, honor, statistic, or historical fact—is purely unintentional and only results from a lack of knowledge. Again, simply point out the mistake or oversight and it will be fixed… this 3rd Edition is over 270 pages and will expand every year—every new season and its subsequent completion will result in more additions—hopefully, more championships, All-State players, and so forth; essentially it has no end. Furthermore, it’s not absolute and for section such as “Notable Bulldogs”—well, there are countless and to name just a few, people like Dave Hodam, Kevin Freking, and Sherm will be added in upcoming versions. So much work and so little time! It is also for the fans, alumni, and patrons of Bettendorf High School who have supported the Bulldogs throughout their history. Finally, it is for anyone who has bled Black & Gold. Obviously, The Complete History of Bettendorf Football really isn’t “complete” until all the information is submitted and up-to- date—and it will only be so for one season. Nevertheless, a more appropriate title couldn’t be envisioned and regardless of its title, please keep in mind that both the website and this eBook are “works-in-progress.” Most notably, there are missing team photos as well as pictures of those individuals who have earned All-State or team M.V.P honors and those who have played in the Iowa Shrine Bowl All-Star game. Additionally, there are also countless Bulldogs who extended their careers into college but who currently aren’t yet credited with that distinction. In all, although the website and consequently this eBook are both detailed, much vital information and/or photos are still missing. On that same note, please note that any error or misprint—about a particular season, team, or individual—is purely unintentional and only exists due to the lack of knowledge; when informed correctly, these inaccuracies are

  • American Football
COMPILED BY : - GAUTAM SINGH STUDY MATERIAL – SPORTS 0 7830294949 American Football American Football popularly known as the Rugby Football or Gridiron originated in United States resembling a union of Rugby and soccer; played in between two teams with each team of eleven players. American football gained fame as the people wanted to detach themselves from the English influence. The father of this sport Walter Camp altered the shape and size of the ball to an oval-shaped ball called ovoid ball and drawn up some unique set of rules. Objective American Football is played on a four sided ground with goalposts at each end. The two opposing teams are named as the Offense and the Defense, The offensive team with control of the ovoid ball, tries to go ahead down the field by running and passing the ball, while the defensive team without control of the ball, targets to stop the offensive team’s advance and tries to take control of the ball for themselves. The main objective of the sport is scoring maximum number of goals by moving forward with the ball into the opposite team's end line for a touchdown or kicking the ball through the challenger's goalposts which is counted as a goal and the team gets points for the goal. The team with the most points at the end of a game wins.
