FOX SPORTS 1 WELCOMES HILL TO FOX SPORTS LIVE & FOX FOOTBALL DAILY Versatile Broadcaster Contributing in Multiple Roles New York -- FOX Sports 1 adds another veteran sports broadcaster to its depth charts with the hiring of Mike Hill for FOX SPORTS LIVE and FOX FOOTBALL DAILY. Hill (@itsmikehill) immediately takes on multiple roles, providing news updates and serving as guest host for FOX SPORTS LIVE, the flagship news, opinion and highlights program airing nightly on FOX Sports 1, America’s new sports network launching Aug. 17. Hill also joins FOX FOOTBALL DAILY, an extension of FOX NFL SUNDAY, the most-watched NFL pregame show for 19 straight years, and will contribute to the network’s coverage of college basketball. The program provides a daily dose of news, interviews and commentary from the pro and collegiate football worlds. Hill left ESPN in June after nine years with the network that included hosting roles on SportsCenter, ESPNews, NBA Tonight, NFL Live, Baseball Tonight and ESPN First Take . He also co-hosted the ESPN Radio program, Hill and Schlereth, with Mark Schlereth, among others. Prior to joining ESPN in 2004, Hill served as a sports anchor for FOX Sports Net (FSN) in New York, in addition to similar roles at local television affiliates in Dallas, Nashville, Tenn., and Fresno, Calif. The study focuses on future prospects for the industry in relation to ESPN and its most prominent rival Fox Sports. It introduces significant players in the market aside from ESPN and Fox Sports and goes on to analyze the current industry conditions in the United States and abroad. To explore the future conditions for the market, the main method used was a SWOT analysis juxtaposing ESPN and Fox Sports. Ultimately, the study found that ESPN is primed to maintain its monopoly on the market for many years to come but Fox Sports is positioned well to compete with the industry behemoth down the road. In order to position itself alongside ESPN as a sports broadcasting power, Fox Sports needs to adjust its time horizon, improve its bids for broadcast rights, focus on the personalities of its shows, and partner with current popular athletes. Additionally, because Fox Sports has such a strong regional persona and presence outside of sports, it should leverage the relationship it has with those viewers to power its national network.     MATT VASGERSIAN & JOHN SMOLTZ ADDED TO MLB ON FOX STARTING ROTATION Renowned Broadcaster and Future Hall of Famer Team Up To Call MLB Games on FOX and FOX Sports 1 New York – FOX Sports added to its already deep MLB lineup, today announcing that former Cy Young Award winner John Smoltz and nationally renowned broadcaster Matt Vasgersian team up to call MLB games on the FOX Broadcast Network and FOX Sports 1. The announcement was made by John Entz, Executive Vice President, Production & Executive Producer, FOX Sports. Smoltz and Vasgersian join the game roster that already includes Joe Buck, Harold Reynolds and Tom Verducci, reporters Erin Andrews and Ken Rosenthal, and play-by-play announcers Kenny Albert and Thom Brennaman. “We are thrilled to add Matt and John to our arsenal of MLB on FOX broadcasters,” Entz said. “Both are very well respected within the game, and each has a style that resonates with viewers.” A familiar face to sports fans, Vasgersian has called MLB and NFL on FOX telecasts and hosted FOX Sports’ national pregame show from the MLB Network studios in Secaucus, N.J. He continues to work in the booth and studio for MLB Network, and along with recently announced MLB on FOX lead game analyst Harold Reynolds, has been part of the multi-Emmy Award winning program MLB Tonight. Vasgersian has also worked on NBC Sports’ Olympics broadcast team, most recently having called ski jumping at the Sochi Games, a role he also held in Vancouver (2010) and Torino (2006). Before joining FOX Sports and MLB Network, Vasgersian served as the television play-by-play voice of the San Diego Padres and Milwaukee Brewers.
