General Characteristics of the District: For the purpose of administrative conveyance, the district is divided into Fourteen Tahsils and Thirteen Panchayat Samities. According to the 2001 Census, there was 776 Gram Panchayat for the purpose of Rural Development. The main crop grown in the district is paddy, Jowar, Soyabean, Cotton Wheat and Tur. Nagpur district stretches over an area of 9892 Sq. Km. Area under Urban sector is 364.66 Sq. Km. while the area under the rural sector is 9657.93 Sq. Km. In the terms of area, Nagpur district constitutes 3.21% of the total area of the Maharashtra State. Total population of the district according to 2001 census was 4068 Thousands out of which 2105 Thousands were males and 1962 Thousands were females. Of the total population, 1454 Thousands is residing in rural area and 2614 Thousands is residing in Urban area. The density of the population according to the 2001 census was 405 persons/Sq. Km. 1.1 Location & Geographical Area: It is practically at geographical center of India, in fact the zero milestone of India is in this city. All major highways NH-7 ( Varanasi - Kanyakumari ) & NH-6 (Mumbai - Sambalpur - Calcutta) amd major railways trunk route (Mumbai, Chennai, Howrah * Delhi) pass through the city. Important Central & State Government offices and institutions are located in Nagpur. Industrial Development is existing along the fringe areas like Kamptee, Hingna, Wadi, Khapri, Butibori and Kalmeshwar. Nagpur is 837 kms. From Mumbai, 1094 Kms south of Delhi, 1092 kms north of Chennai and 1140 kms west of Calcutta. Nagpur district lies between 20.35 to 21.44 North Latitude and 78.15 to 79.40 East Longitude. The surrounding region is an undulating plateau rising northward to the Satpura Range, from 889 to 2,142 feet (271 to 653 m) high and is drained by the Kanhan and Pench rivers in the center, the Wardha in the west, and the Wainganga in the east. Both these rivers later merge as tributaries into the Godavari river. The soil is fertile black (cotton) in the west and the north and alluvial in the east. The average annual rainfall is 45 inches, with more rain in the east than in the west. In the west, the hills are forested. In the northeast are the hills of Ramtek. 5 1.2 Topography: Nagpur district lies between 20.35 to 21.44 North Latitude and 78.15 to 79.40 East Longitude., in the plain to which it gives its name at the southern base of the Satpuda Hills. It has an area of 9,892 Sq. km. The district is bounded on the north by the Chhindwada and Seoni districts of the Madhya Pradesh, on the east by Bhandara, on the south and west by Chanda and Wardha, respectively, and along a small strip on the north- west by the Amravati district. The northern range of hills extends along the whole border, being pierced only in two places where the Kanhan and Pench rivers have broken through. On the west it consists merely of the outlying foothills of the Satpudas, the plateau proper lying behind them in Chhindwada. But from the Kanhan to the Pench, it is the major range of the Satpudas themselves which dominates the landscape, and the ascent of the Khamarpani plateau is made in Nagpur. Along this length the hills are well wooded and picturesque, and there is some striking scenery on the Pench river. In the Archaean area the rocks are hidden beneath a considerable thickness of alluvial soil, deposited by the tributaries of the Kanhan and the Wainganga rivers. In the trappean area the soil is usually the black cotton soil known as regur with Kankar, which is also found in the soils on the Archaean areas. The climate of this district is characterised by a hot summer, well distributed rainfall and dryness except in the rainy season. The cold season is from December to February and is followed by the hot season from March to May. The south-west monsoon season is from June to September while the period October-November constitutes the post-monsoon season. 1.2 Availability of Minerals. Nagpur district is moderately rich in minerals. Deposits of Coal, Manganese ore, Dolomite, Limestone, Iron Ore, Clay, Copper Ore, Chromites, Tungsten Ore, Zinc Ore, Lead Ore, Granite, Quartz etc. are found in the district. 6 Coal reserves have been found in the North-West belt of the district i.e. from Saoner to Kanhan ( Kamptee apart from the high coal found in umrer tahsil). Nagpur district is richly endowed with Manganese Ore and the district is well placed in the country as far as production of Manganese ore is concerned. Manganese ore is found particularly in Ramtek and Saoner tahsils. Good quality limestone is found in Kandri and Deolapar, Mica and Tungsten are also found in the district. The sand from Kanhan River is considered to be of high quality as far as the construction of building is concerned. PRODUCTION OF MINERAL 2010-11 S.NO. Forest resources contribute significantly to the economy of the district. Most of the land under forest can be found on the banks of Pench River, at the foot hills of Satpuda in Ramtek tahsil. Teakwood is available from these forests in sizeable quantity. The other resources are Tendu Patta, Gum, Bamboo, Grass etc. 1.5 Administrative set up. IMD Forecast; Yesterday’s (Aug16) depression over Orissa moved northwestwards and lay centred at 0830 hours IST of today, the 17th August, 2006 near Lat. 22.00 N and Long. 83.50 E, about 100 kms east of Champa. The system is likely to move in a northwesterly direction and weaken gradually. Under its influence, widespread rainfall with heavy to very heavy falls at few places are likely over Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh during next 24 hours. INTRODUCTION: Vidarbha (19° 21”N and long 76° 80”E) is an eastern part of Maharashtra state and is outside the Deccan trap area and falls geologically in the Gondwana formation. It is border the state of Madhya Pradesh to the north, Chhattisgarh in the east, Telangana in the south and Marathwada and Khandesh regions of Maharashtra in the west. Situated in central India, Vidarbha has its own rich, cultural and historical background distinct from rest of Maharashtra, Besides in archaeological remains. Nagpur having Archaeological evidence at every part, the Prehistory Branch of the Archaeological Survey of India, Nagpur has reported Middle Palaeolithic and Upper Palaeolithic sites from the district (IAR 2002-03: 145-148). A notable discovery was of a Neolithic celt made on schist (Adam Excavation 1987-1996) a very less countable prehistoric site in situated Vidarbha region. After that early Mauryan and Mauryan activities in this area and majority of sites are belongs to Satavahanas period. We found archaeological evidences ranging from prehistoric period to modern era at every part of Vidarbha and particularly in Nagpur, Chandrapur, Bhandara and Gondia districts which are known to archaeologist for burial of Megalithic people.

Srinivasu PGTD of Botany, Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Amravati road, Nagpur- 440033 Abstract Nagpur is one of the districts in the Vidarbha and winter capital of Maharashtra with great biodiversity of plants. Ugemuge (1986) studied ‘The Flora of Nagpur district’ and others added some species to existing data. The changes after very recent urbanization and industrialization have affected the flora of Nagpur district a lot. In view of it and after introduction of new digital technology, it is very necessary to update and revise the existing floristic structure of Nagpur district. Digital database preparation is technologically a step ahead in the revision of the flora of Nagpur district with some advancement. The present paper enumerates additional four dicot taxa collected from Nagpur district which fall under four genera and four different families which are new record for the district viz. Polycarpon prostratum (Forsk.) Asch. (Caryophyllaceae), Acacia ferruginea DC. (Mimosaceae), Mollugo nudicaulis Lam. (Molluginaceae), Holoptelea integrifolia (Roxb.) Planch. (Ulmaceae). The orange crop plays a vital role within the economy of the region. Among the fruit crops, orange crop covers about 45,226 ha area in Vidarbha. There is still a good potential toward bringing a lot of area below orange in Vidarbha region. The present paper analyses the information behaviour of orange growers concerning the production of the oranges. The various types of constraints confronted by the orange grower related to production of orange are rootstock availability, labour availability, manures and fertilizers, irrigation, plant protection, capital, availability of loan from co-operative society, technical information, use of growth regulator, supporting and constraints confronted by the orange grower related to marketing of orange are Grading, Transportation, Sale of produce, Packaging, Storage. The study was conducted in the purposively selected Amravati district of the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra state. Five Panchayat Samities from Amravati district were hand-picked purposively covering ten villages from every Panchayat Samiti.

However, in recent years, while declining HIV trends are evident at the national level as well as in most of the States, some low prevalence and vulnerable States have shown rising trends, warranting focused prevention efforts in specific areas. The National AIDS Control Programme (NACP) is strongly evidence-based and evidence-driven. Based on evidence from ‘Triangulation of Data’ from multiple sources and giving due weightage to vulnerability, the organizational structure of NACP has been decentralized to identified districts for priority attention. The programme has been successful in creating a robust database on HIV/AIDS through the HIV Sentinel Surveillance system, monthly programme reporting data and various research studies.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY This Pre Feasibility Report has been prepared for the Proposed sand ghat over the area of 0.30 Ha at River Sandnadi adjoining Khasra No. 88, 89, 90 of Mouza Mohadi, Tahsil Mauda, District Nagpur, Maharashtra, in accordance with the Notification of MoEF S.O. 1533 dated 14th September 2006. The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change amended Principal Notification vide 141 (E) dated 15th January 2016 and included Minor Minerals from 0 Ha to 50 Ha in the Principal Notification S.O. 1533 (E) dated 14.09.2006. Central Government made further amendments to the notification vide S.O. 2269 (E) dated 01.07.2016. In obedience all relevant notifications to the principal Notification dated 14th September 2006, application for the excavation of sand ghat from proposed sand ghat is being submitted to DEIAA, Nagpur. Though any development activity like industry or minor mineral excavation may cause temporary damage to land, forest and induce changes in the quality of air, water, flora and fauna of the area, it has favorable effect of industrialization on social development and progress of the nation.
