1.0 Introduction

Iver Heath is home to 4,945 people and provides 2,300 jobs in 178 businesses. Of these businesses, 54 (30.3 per cent) are Buckinghamshire Business First members.

There were 3,594 employed people aged 16-74 living in Iver Heath ward at the 2011 Census, 314 more than the 3,280 recorded in 2001. Over that period the working age population rose 304 to 3,192 while the total population rose 364 to 4,945. The number of households rose by 85 (4.5 per cent) to 1,959. This is a significant percentage increase and places the ward seventh out of all wards in South Buckinghamshire. Based on the increase in number of households, the ward ranks 47th out of all wards in Buckinghamshire.

The largest companies in Iver Heath include:

 Pinewood Plc;  Creative Skillset;  Octaga Security Services Limited;  Technicolour Creative Services;  Iver Flowerland Ltd;  Film London; and  Rigging Services.

There are 38 Iver Heath, representing 1.2 per cent of working age residents, including 20 claimants aged 25-49 and 25 who have been claiming for less than six months.

Superfast broadband is expected to be available to 97 per cent of premises in the Iver Heath ward by March 2016 with commercial providers responsible for 94 per cent. The Connected Counties project, run by BBF, deliver the remaining 3 per cent through its interventions in Iver and Fulmer exchange areas. BBF is seeking to deliver an extended superfast footprint via additional funding, adaptation of downstream technology and contract claw-back mechanism.

At the time of the 2001 Censusi, of the 2,334 employed residents, 526 people lived and worked in the ward, with the most common destinations by local authority district being:

2.0 Industrial structure

There are 178 businesses located in Iver Heath employing 2,300 people. Of these businesses, 107 are micro businesses, employing fewer than 10 people.

Iver Heath is over-represented in information & communication which covers 36.6 per cent of employment ranking the ward 19th out of all wards. Wholesale accounts for 7.3 per cent of employment while arts, entertainment, recreation & other services covers 7.3 per cent of employment. Based on these proportions of employment, the ward ranks 1,399th and 1,746th out of all wards.

Iver Heath is under-represented in a number of sectors including; manufacturing; retail; transport & storage; financial & insurance; property; and health. Manufacturing accounts for 2.0 per cent of employment ranking the ward 5,763rd out of all wards. Retail makes up only 4.0 per cent of employment ranking the ward 6,372nd out of all wards. Transport & storage makes up 2.4 per cent of employment while financial & insurance makes up 0.1 per cent of employment. Finally, property covers just 0.6 per cent of employment ranking the ward 5,106th out of all wards.

2.1 The Industrial Strategy and the Plan for Growth

Plan for Growth and the Industrial Strategy set out policies to realise this objective and to rebalance the economy, which include focusing on sectors expected to deliver strong growth. South Buckinghamshire -represented in these sectors, particularly aerospace, the information economy and professional and business services.

While Iver Heath provides jobs in these sectors, the industrial strategy sector where the ward delivers the highest share of national employment is professional & business services which accounts for 15.7 per cent of employment, ranking Iver Heath at 1,106th among English wards. The proportions of jobs in Iver Heath in Industrial Strategy sectors are presented in Table 1.

At 6.3 per cent, the proportion of Iver Heath education sector is the 5,741st highest of all wards in England, the proportion is above that of the country level but below the district level.

3.0 Labour market

At 69.6 per cent of 16-74 year olds, Iver Heath lowest in the country. Iver Heath has a proportion of 26.3 per cent of its residents qualified to degree level or higher. Furthermore, 46.6 per cent work in managerial, professional or technical occupations.

In South Buckinghamshire the wards most similar to Iver Heath are Iver Village & Richings Park, Denham South and Burnham Church with six of the other 27 wards among the top thousand closest matches. The least similar ward in the district is North, the only ward in South Buckinghamshire to rank lower than the 6,000th closest match.

Iver Heath has a high level of those who work from home and of those who are self- employed. Furthermore, as stated previously, the ward has a high level of those educated to degree level or higher and those working in managerial, professional and technical roles ranking in the second highest quartile for both. Iver Heath looks to have a high employment rate and a high level of working age residents.

4.0 Occupational Structure

Iver Heath remunerated occupations, with 46.6 per cent of working residents employed in managerial, professional and technical occupations, ranking in the top quartile nationally for managerial and technical occupations. In contrast Iver Heath ranks in the bottom quartile for other occupations, with only 6.8 per cent of working residents employed in elementary occupations.

5.0 Deprivation

Buckinghamshire has the lowest level of economic deprivation of any Local Enterprise Partnership, with South Buckinghamshire having the 13th lowest economic deprivation of all 326 local authority districts in England, behind South Bucks (10th) but ahead of Aylesbury (37th) and Wycombe (69th). Chart 4 demonstrates the concentration of South Buckinghamshire 8 of the 19 wards featuring among the least deprived 10 per cent of all wards in England and none falling below the sixth most deprived ranking among the most deprived half of English wards, a stark contrast to the London Borough of Newham where no ward ranks above halfway, highlighting the challenge South Buckinghamshire faces to attract resources to tackle deprivation.

Iver Heath has the 1,517th lowest economic deprivation of the 7,707 wards in England and the 13th least economically deprived of the 19 South Buckinghamshire wards. Iver Heath is the 62nd least economically deprived among the 108 wards in Buckinghamshire. The position of South Buckinghamshire ds in England is shown in Chart 4 below, with Iver Heath one of the five second least deprived decile.

Iver Heath ranks 5,888th out of all wards in England based on the Index of Multiple Deprivationii; this makes it among the less deprived wards in England, below South Buckinghamshire 6,084th, demonstrating that the ward is more deprived than the district as a whole.

The wards in South Buckinghamshire most closely matching Iver Heath deprivation profile are presented in Table 3. Nationally, the closest matches are Botley (Eastleigh), Watling (Dacorum) and Chigwell Village (Epping Forest) while Iver Village & Richings Park and Denham North are the most similar in South Buckinghamshire ranking as the fifth and 31st most similar of all English wards. Of the 19 South Buckinghamshire wards 16 are among the 1,000 best matches, however Gerrards Cross South is only the 3,368th closest match.

6.0 Demography

At 40.5 years, Iver Heath above the 39.4 recorded across South Buckinghamshire but below the county average of 41.0. This makes Iver Heath one of the younger wards in England as suggested by the over-representation of 0-44 year olds in Chart 6. In terms of age structure, two of the wards in South Buckinghamshire most similar to Iver Heath are Beaconsfield West and Iver Village & Richings Park with average ages of 40.2 and 40.5 respectively.

Iver Heath has a lower proportion of working age residents than South Buckinghamshire at 64.6 per cent. This ranks Iver Heath at 2,647th of all wards in England based on proportion of residents at working age. Iver Heath has a fairly high proportion of those aged 0-15 at 18.8 per cent. This ranks Iver Heath at 3,171st of all wards in England putting it among the central 20 per cent of all wards in England for this age bracket.

7.0 Educational attainment

South Buckinghamshire is one of the best qualified places in the country, with only 16.2 per cent of residents aged 16 and over holding no qualifications, well below the 22.5 per cent recorded across the country as a whole, while 37.5 per cent hold degree level qualifications, well above the national level of 27.4 per cent.

Iver Heath lowe 19.8 per cent having no qualifications and only 26.3 per cent educated to degree level or higher. There is a total of 3.4 per cent of Iver Heath residents who are schoolchildren or full-time students aged 16 to 17. This is high in comparison to other wards in South Buckinghamshire as well as other wards across England. The wa compared to all wards in England is presented in Chart 7 below.

Iver Heath is most similar to Bromley Common & Keston (Bromley), Wooton (Bedford) and Leverstock Green (Dacorum) of all English wards with regard to educational attainment. In the district the most similar wards are Burnham Church, Wexham & Iver West and Iver Vilage & Richings Park with only two of the other 18 wards ranking inside the top 1000 matches and with Taplow ranking outside the top 8,000 along with Burnham Beeches.

7.1 Iver Heath

Buckinghamshire has the strongest schools performance any LEPiii, with over a quarter of

and 88.0 per cent of young people in the county achieving at least NVQ level 2 by 19. Iver Heath most recent OFSTED reports, which are summarised below.

7.2 Iver Heath Junior School (Key Stage 2)

In 2013, 88 per cent of pupils attained Level 4 or above in the Key Stage 2 English test and assessment, the result placed the school in the top 20 per cent of all schools. In reading, 88 per cent of pupils attained Level 4 or above in the Key Stage 2 reading test, an increase of three percentage points since 2012 placing the school in the middle 20 per cent of all schools. In writing, 88 per cent of pupils attained Level 4 or above in the Key Stage 2 writing test and assessment, an increase of eight percentage points on the previous year placing the school in the middle 20 per cent of all schools. Finally, in maths, 79 per cent of pupils attained Level 4 or higher, a decrease of 11 percentage points on the previous year placing the school in the bottom 40 per cent of all schools.

In reading, 72 per cent per cent attained expected progress in reading ranking the school in the lowest 20 per cent out of all schools. In writing, 90 per cent of pupils attained expected progress placing the school in the lowest 40 per cent of all schools. In maths, 76 per cent of pupils attained expected progress placing the school in the lowest 20 per cent of all schools. Overall, the attendance rate at the school was 95.1 per cent placing the school in the middle 20 per cent of all schools.
