Local government reform update

As a result of a community poll in East voting against an amalgamation between the and Town of East Fremantle, the state government’s proposed amalgamation between our two local government areas will not be proceeding. It would also appear that other parts of local government reform (boundary adjustments to include Bicton and Palmyra from the , Hamilton Hill and North Coogee from the and the inclusion of Rottnest Island into a larger Fremantle) will also not go ahead. The City is disappointed in these outcomes as we believe there were significant opportunities for residents in reforming the local government sector. Myths regarding the City of Fremantle Over the past 6 to 12 months a lot of misinformation has been circulated regarding local government reform and what would happen if the City of Fremantle amalgamated with the Town of East Fremantle. It’s now time to set the record straight on some of these claims which you can find at www.fremantle.wa.gov.au/lgreformfacts Where to now It’s business as usual at the City and we will continue to focus on delivering our services to our community.
