Sturgis Elementary School Meade School District 46-1

“To Build Knowledge and Skills for Success Today and Tomorrow

A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL CHANTAL LIGTENBERG

2019-2020 School Fundraiser: I want to thank all of you for your support in our recent fundraiser. The money raised goes to field trips, special assemblies, school celebrations, playground equipment and special activities in the classroom. Please know that no one is obligated to sell. We do understand how busy families are and we also appreciated the donations we received to our cause.

Halloween/Fall Classroom Parties: We ask that students do not wear their Halloween costumes to school. This is to ensure us the ability to still have a conducive learning environment as well as guarantee that their costume is ready for trick or treating that evening. Classrooms will partake in celebrations within their individual rooms. Please contact the teachers directly if you are interested in helping out or donating something for the party.

Supervision on Playground

We continue to have students dropped off earlier than we have supervision. Please don’t drop off your students earlier than 7:45 a.m. Breakfast students can be dropped off as early as 7:30 a.m. at the cafeteria doors.

Orange Flags on the Playground: Just a reminder that when you see an orange flag posted on the fence of the playground your child may come indoors in the morning. An orange flag is posted when the temperature dips below 0, extreme wind gusts, or heavy precipitation. Kindergarten goes to the library. First, third, and fourth grade go to the gym. Second grade goes to the cafeteria. All visitors to our building must enter through the office doors.

Inclement Weather/School Closings

On mornings when school is cancelled or a late start occurs, every attempt will be made to notify the following radio and television stations by 6-6:30 a.m.: radio stations BHB, KOTA, KAT, FOX, KIMM, KKMK, KKLS, KRCS, KSQY, KIQK, KTOQ, KDDX, KZZI, KDSJ, and television stations KOTA, KEVN, KNBN, and KELO.

In addition to the announcements on select radio and television stations, parents will also be notified by telephone via School Messenger (previously known as School Reach) in the event of school closing or early dismissal. School Messenger messages will come from the district level. Please let the school office know if you have changed phone numbers recently so we may make those updates in our system.

PLEASE NOTIFY THE OFFICE IF YOUR STUDENT IS IN AN ACTIVE MIILITARY FAMILY, THANK YOU!
