Feature : On board with Roberto Moreno

01.44 ITV Roberto Moreno (In English) “Hello, I am Roberto Moreno…from Moscow Raceway. Let’s go and have a lap with me in the race car”

01.49 In the wet, this car is really enjoyable to drive. We are in the front straight…first corner, I am a slow here in 2 nd gear. You can probably go in 3 rd when it is dry…but for safety, you go in 2 nd . Keep in 2 nd for 3 rd and 4 th corner. Little bit of understeering on the exit but then there is a blind downhill…very slippery here and then you have to be very careful for this corner in 2 nd gear, it is like you coming back. Traction is a problem here on the exit…And then this corner, it is the beginning of the back straight… so you have to be very quick out of there. In the dry you go flat but in the wet, you have to be very careful here, my car is sliding there.

02.40 Another hard breaking for this sharp right in 2 nd gear. Another difficult corner here with the traction. More or less, most of the corners are in 2 nd gear because I was trying to be very safe. As you saw there, a little bit of oversteering on the exit…here understeer then oversteer out on the way. This corner, you don’t see the entrance because it is a very tight corner. You have got a couple of more corners here, it is like an S before the main straight. Also this right hand here before the main straight, you have to be carful to get the maximum speed as possible. I went a little wide there to try to get more traction.

03.30 And then you have this main straight, as you can see I am taking it very easy at this time. Trying to learn from the other drivers and not getting on their way. There is a hard breaking in 2 nd gear again. This was a lap with Roberto Moreno”

03.52 VO: Moreno is a veteran of 42 F1 Grand Prix. He also made his name in the USA’s Champ Car, finishing 3 rd in 2000. Accustomed to Super Touring and Grand Touring cars, the Brazilian should have little trouble finding his way round this high-performance Saloon car.

04.17 ITV Roberto Moreno (In English) “I really wanted to get behind the wheels of a car for a while…Coming to all the races, seeing this great car, I asked my friend at Renault if there was an opportunity…I would take a chance although it has been 3 years since I drove competitively a car. The power of the Renault engine is fantastic and very well balanced with the grip from the Michelin tyres. It is a great category for a Saloon car…it is the best Saloon car I ever driven. I am very pleased with that team and it is now just a matter of doing some laps and getting used to it”.

Now, you can see on the tribunes that there is a lot of fans, they are all waiting. 14.13 ITV Winner Fabien THUNER (In English) “It was quite good. I did a very good strategy. The team was ready to pit stop very early because of the incident MORENO had and it was the good strategy, it paid at least, and I had a very good pace – not like in qualifying, but we resolved the problem we had and I am quite happy and the team did an incredible job.”

14.32 VO : For his first race with Lompech, Comini is 2 nd on the podium.

14.40 ITV Stefano Comini (in Italian) “It is not a bad result but for me...the 2 nd is the 1 st of the loser…so I have lost today. During the race, I had a misunderstanding with the team, I thought Fabian Thuner did not pit yet. 8 laps to the end, I realised it but I could not come back on him. I had to take care of my breaks, I was looking to the tyres and the fuel as well because we pitted quite early in the race”.

15.11 VO : Nico Nalio is 3 rd on the podium behind Thuner and Comini.

15.18 ITV Nico Nalio (in English) “It is amazing today because the race was really chaotic. 17.35 ITV Alain PROST (In French) “What’s very important for them here is to see what a standard is. So that allows them to discover what they have seen from time to time on television... what they have lived from time to time on TV.”

17.52 VO: For Alain, no question of just looking at the track ... he had to try it out, with a little help from rally legend Jean RAGNOTTI...

18.26 (Sound of Alain PROST in car) “Have you seen the crowds in the grandstands?”

18.29 VO: Arriving in Russia is, for Alain, reminiscent of his first event in Hungary in the late 80’s.

18.35 ITV Alain PROST (In French) “People think we’re there and we just go from the hotel to the track, but it’s not true. When, at the time, we went to Hungary, and now Russia, and perhaps for others, I haven’t been for a while, but to China, India and the Middle East ... Look at what happened this year in Bahrein. You live with the culture of the country. You live with its history at the same time.”

18.55 VO: And when it comes to taking on different roles, the legends of motorsport present in Moscow didn’t think twice. It’s all part of the game.

22.13 Podium celebration

22.23 ITV Winner Albert Costa (In English) “I don’t want to speak about yesterday but… he had problems. 22.40 VO : Nicco Nalio is second on the podium

22.48 ITV Niccolio Nalio (In English) “I did a really good race, my team was perfect giving me a very good car. I could push from the beginning. During the pit, I did a very good pit stop. So I can push after pit and I finished 2 nd . It is good for the championship…Good for the team and myself. Now we need a victory”

23.09 VO: Third behind the 2 Oregon drivers is Tom Coronel

23.15 ITV Tom Coronel (In English) “You are on the podium, it means you have been challenging the front runners. Costa is very fast, you can see he is the best driver in the field…I have to be honest about this. It is difficult to match this kind of people because they know the car…they know the tyres. But I am enjoying it, it is a good car, it is not a touring car…it is not a formula car. It is just in the middle, it is in between and we don’t have a series like this in the world so I really like it. It is a competitive car for a driver”.
