    November 20, 2015 Media Contact: Savannah Whaley Pierson Grant Public Relations 954-776-1999 ext. 225 Jan Goodheart, Broward Center 954-765-5814 A PETER WHITE CHRISTMAS WITH RICK BRAUN AND MINDI ABAIR BRINGS THE SOUNDS OF THE SEASON TO PARKER PLAYHOUSE FORT LAUDERDALE – Celebrate the holidays with A Peter White Christmas with Rick Braun and Mindi Abair at Parker Playhouse on Saturday, December 12 at 8 p.m. One of the most versatile and prolific acoustic guitarists, White leads the contemporary jazz lineup in this seasonal concert combining smooth jazz cheer with traditional Christmas classics such as “White Christmas” and “Silent Night,” plus a few surprises along the way. White launched his career as a keyboardist touring with Al Stewart and worked with him in the studio on the classic album Year of the Cat. The tour and that album marked the beginning of a 20-year association with Stewart. During that time, the two musicians co-wrote numerous songs, including Stewart’s 1978 hit, “Time Passages.” After years as a backup musician and a session player, White launched his solo recording career and his annual Christmas tour is fueled by the success of his two highly regarded holiday albums, Songs of the Season (1997) and A Peter White Christmas (2007). Braun adds his stylistically eclectic trumpeting to the mix. A consistent chart-topper who has amassed a catalogue of #1 Billboard Contemporary Jazz Chart and radio hits throughout his solo career, Braun has also produced #1 hits for David Benoit, Marc Antoine and former Rod Stewart band sidekick Jeff Golub.

Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskrptif analisis. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa: (1) Peranan horn section pada lagu “Get It On” dengan genre funk cenderung bermain sebagai pengisi/filler, sesekali mengambil tema utama dan juga memainkan bagian improvisasi seperti lagu-lagu jazz pada umumnya, (2) karaketeristik permainan pengisi/filler horn section pada lagu “Get It On” ini cenderung menggunakan not-not sepredelapan, seperenambelas serta banyak bermain di bagian sinkopasi dan tutti, (3) bentuk komposisi lagu “Get It On” terdiri dari tiga bagian , dengan susunan kalimat A- B-C-A’ yang terdiri dari 181 birama : 17 birama bagian introduksi, 8 birama kalimat A, 8 birama kalimat B, 4 birama kalimat C, 8 birama kalimat A’, 7 birama transisi penghantar, 2 birama transisi modulasi, 92 birama bagian improvisasi dan 3 birama kodetta. Kata Kunci: Get It On, Horn Section, Brian Culbertson, Funk. ABSTRACT This Research aims to determine the role and form composition of horn section on one of Brian Culbertson creation entitled “Get It On”.

    FREE 24th ANNUAL BALCONES HEIGHTS JAZZ FESTIVAL Celebrating a diverse line-up of headlining artists all new to the Balcones Heights Jazz Festival! What: For over two decades, the Balcones Heights Jazz Festival has been a summer highlight captivating jazz aficionados from across Texas with a free stellar line-up of renowned jazz stars from across the country. This year’s performance features a diverse line-up of headlining and special opening acts, new to the Jazz Festival. These performers include: Los Angeles-based trumpeter Rick Braun; UK’s Smooth Jazz keyboardist Oli Silk; Grammy nominated guitarist Paul Jackson, Jr.; D.C. saxophonist Phillip “Doc” Martin; world jazz duo guitarists Strunz & Farah; national recording artist and saxophonist Chase Huna; and contemporary guitarist Steve Oliver. Locally singing sensation (and the only returning artist) MELINA will join Texas guitarist Ruben V on stage at the Wonderland of the Americas. For four consecutive Friday evenings, the festival’s laid back and family-friendly atmosphere will welcome an estimated 4,000 jazz fans, surpassing the city’s entire population of 3,000. Die-hard fans have been known to stake out their claim, with lawn chairs and blankets in tow, days in advance of the event at favorite spots along the edge of the sparking reflecting pool and fountains of the city’s main hub Wonderland of the Americas. David Munoz, host of “Sunday Morning Jazz” on Q101.9 is emcee of the festival. He’s hosted the Jazz Festival for the past 23 years and has hosted the “Sunday Morning Jazz Show” for more than 27 years.

    Biographical Notes World on Fire Peter Bowker Writer, World on Fire MASTERPIECE fans remember Peter Bowker’s impassioned adaptation of Wuthering Heights from 2009, which captured Emily Brontë’s masterpiece in all its complexity. With World on Fire he has created a plot with even more twists, turns, and memorable characters, centered on the chaotic events at the outset of World War II. Bowker has been an established screenwriter in the U.K since penning scripts for Casualty in the early 1990s. Since then, he has written for many long-running series such as Where the Heart Is and Clocking Off. His original work has included Undercover Heart; Flesh and Blood, for which he won Best Writer at the RTS Awards; Blackpool, which was awarded BANFF Film Festival Best Mini-Series and Global Television Grand Prize; and Occupation, which was awarded Best Drama Serial at the BAFTA Awards, in addition to Best Short-Form Drama at the WGGB Awards and another RTS Best Writer Award. He has since written Eric and Ernie and Marvellous. Both productions have won prestigious awards, including a Best Drama BAFTA for Marvellous, which became the most popular BBC2 single drama of the last 20 years. Most recently he has written an adaptation of John Lanchester’s novel Capital and two series of the acclaimed The A Word. Julia Brown Lois Bennett, World on Fire Driven to escape her cheating lover and dysfunctional family, Julia Brown’s character in World on Fire finds a wartime role that exploits her remarkable singing talent. Luckily, Brown herself is a gifted vocalist and sang much of the soundtrack that accompanies the episodes.
