BBC Canada Top Gear America (8x60min) Fall 2017 Canadian Broadcast Premiere The reimagined U.S. spin-off of Top Gear America reviews not just exclusive and state-of-the-art vehicles, but also the cars of America’s culture-defining past. From the latest supercars to the ultimate in automotive engineering technology, Top Gear America will put the viewer in the passenger seat alongside the car-obsessed hosts, as they race the most incredible vehicles on the scenic highways and historic tracks of the American west. Each week will feature a different celebrity who will compete for top honour on the leader board at the new Top Gear studio and track, Speed Vegas. Farmers’ Market Flip, Season 1 (7x30min) Summer 2017 Canadian Broadcast Premiere Farmers’ Market Flip is a deliciously action-packed half-hour cooking competition that puts two teams of chefs' culinary skills to the ultimate test, as they face off to see who can produce the most crowd-pleasing dishes over one lightning-fast day. First, it's the flavour of the market challenge and the teams must create a dish that highlights a vendor's star ingredient. Then, the teams get only 20 minutes to race through the farmer’s market to buy ultra-fresh ingredients. They'll setup shop in the Farmers’ Market Flip pop-up kitchen, where they'll have one hour to prepare gourmet delights that will be sampled and judged by hungry customers at the market. When time's up, the team that wins over the most palates will take the prize and even some serious culinary cred. A brand new season of Man Fire Food returns this fall on Cooking Channel Canada. Disney Channel Descendants 2 (1x111min) Summer 2017 Canadian Broadcast Premiere The story deepens in the music-driven sequel to the global smash hit Descendants, as the teenage sons and daughters of Disney’s most infamous villains — Mal (Dove Cameron, Liv and Maddie), Evie (Sofia Carson, Adventures in Babysitting), Carlos (Cameron Boyce, Jessie) and Jay (Booboo Stewart, Lab Rats: Elite Force) — try to find their place in idyllic Auradon. Bunting-Hudson All Rights Reserved ABSTRACT The Art of the Hustle: A Study of the Rap Music Industry in Bogota, Colombia Laura L. Bunting-Hudson How do rap artists in Bogota, Colombia come together to make music? What is the process they take to commodify their culture? Why are some rappers able to become socially mobile in this process, while others are less so? What is technology’s role in all of this? This ethnography explores those questions, as it carefully documents the strategies utilized by various rap groups in Bogota, Colombia to create social mobility, commoditize products and to create a different vision of modernity within the hip-hop community, as an alternative to the ideals set forth by mainstream Colombian society. Resistance Art Poetry (RAP), is said to have originated in the United States but has become a form of international music. In conducting ethnographic research from December of 2012 to October 2014, I was able to discover how rappers organize themselves politically, how they commoditize their products and distribute them to create various types of social mobilities. In this dissertation, I constructed models to typologize rap groups in Bogota, Colombia, which I call polities of rappers to discuss how these groups come together, take shape, make plans and execute them to reach their business goals.
