Parking: Parking is free in most University lots after 4:30pm, though restricted spots may still be ticketed. On-street parking (Residential Parking Zone) is also available in the evening hours.

Bus and Truck Parking: Bus and truck parking is not available at the theatre. Oversize vehicle parking is provided in the V7 lot, located on the corner of 18th and D Street, and in the X22 lot, located on the corner of 18th and Alder Street. Both are a distance from McConnell Hall. Special arrangements can be made to accommodate specific needs if coordinated well in advance. Parking is marked on Central Washington University Map - Appendix B.

Travel Directions:

From Seattle (West): Take I-90 East to Ellensburg, Exit # 106. Follow the arterial (Dolar Way) to Central Washington University, which will be on your left.

From Spokane (East): Take I-90 West to Ellensburg, Exit # 109. Make a right off the exit ramp, and follow Canyon Road/Main Street to University Way. Turn Right on University Way and drive four blocks. Central Washington University is on your left.

From Yakima, Tri-Cities (South): Take I-82 North to I-90 West. Take the first exit (#109). Make a right off the exit ramp and follow Canyon Road/Main Street to University Way. Turn right on University Way and drive four blocks. Central Washington University is on your left.

From Wenatchee (North): Take U.S. 97 South over Blewett Pass into Ellensburg. Follow the arterial (Dolar Way) to Central Washington University, which will be on the left.

Time Zone:

Ellensburg is located in the Pacific Time Zone. Washington State observes Daylight Savings Time.

Management

Production Office: Located on first floor Room 107E, digital phone line, hi-speed wireless internet access, copier and fax located on the same floor.

Green Room: 14’ X 26’, located directly behind up right door. Accessible from the Tower theatre via a flight of stairs located in the dressing room hallway.

Stage Manager’s Station: Located in the light booth. Contains Clear Com SB-8 intercom base station and house light control.

Rehearsal Rooms(s): 2 rooms available, 1 of which is in a separate building.

Room 119: Black box studio with mirrors, sound system, and curtains, 33’X38’, located on the same floor as stage.

Hebeler Hall Room 118: Converted old gymnasium, carpeted, 40’ X 32’, located in an adjacent building.

Crews: Primarily paid student staff, consisting mostly of upper level Design and Production Theatre Majors.

Handicapped Access: All of the dressing rooms are located on the 2nd floor. Access between the dressing rooms and is through the same entrance that the audience uses. The direct access between the greenroom and stage is not wheelchair accessible because it includes a staircase.

Policies:

Alcohol: Alcohol is available, and must be coordinated, through the production manager, and the Central Washington University President’s Office.

Curtain: House opens ½ hour prior to curtain. Normal curtain time is 7:30 PM for evening shows, and 2 PM for matinee shows.

Marijuana: Private marijuana use is legal in Washington however it is prohibited on the Central Washington University campus because of federal Department of Education rules.

Smoking: All Central Washington University buildings are tobacco free in accordance with RCW 70.160 but smoking is allowed in designated areas outdoors. Smoking on stage is not permitted. Use of electronic cigarettes as a substitute is permitted.

Load-in Area

Dimensions: Two loading areas are available; located on east side, and west side of building.

East side loading dock: Loads in to the scene shop. Stands 3’-3” high, 9’-10” wide, and can only accommodate 1 truck at a time, maximum truck size of 24’ Loading door is 6’-10” X 5’-3”. Door opens in to scene shop. From the scene shop, all equipment must be wheeled down a common use hallway, on to an elevator, and in to the theatre.

West side loading doors: Double doors, located on the northwest corner of the building at ground level, which opens in to campus court yard. These doors give access to the elevator for loading items upstairs. Door measures7’-6” X 6’-6”. This is the most direct route in to the theatre.

Carpentry

Seating: Milo Smith Tower Theatre can accommodate 308, when all seating units utilized in the arena configuration. The theatre typically has 2 wheelchair accessible seats available on the floor level.

Stage Dimensions:

The Milo Smith Tower Theatre is a black box theatre, making it a multi-functional space. Open floor area unspecific because of changeable seating arrangement, however unused seating units must stay in the theatre. When all seating units are in storage, open floor area measures 63’-2”X 75’-4”.

Wing Space: Vom space available based on seating unit set up. Soft good are available for hanging, upon request, for wing spaces.

Grid Height: From the deck to top of grid surface is 16’, no fly space available.

Orchestra Pit: Not applicable

Stage Height: The stage is at floor level, house is raked above stage floor.

Stage Floor: Soft pine floor with hardboard deck painted black. Traps are not available. Improved stage screws, lag screws, drywall screws, and nails are allowed. Holes in the floor larger than 3/8” must be plugged after use.

Support Areas:

Crossover: This area is case specific, depending on the configuration of the space. There are two crossovers along the east-west axis. The east crossover is via an outdoor patio and the west crossover is via the lobby hallway.

Access: The space has double doors on the northwest and southwest corners, measuring 6’X 6’-10”. There are single doors on the east wall and in the southeast corner; both doors are public access, but are mainly used for emergency exits. The east door measures 2’-10” X 6’-10” and opens onto a balcony, the southeast door measures 3’ X 6’-10”. There is a door on the south wall that is actor access only, it measures 2’-9” X 6’1-10” Dressing rooms are located on the same floor, and green room is down one level.

Shop Area: Located on the first floor, down the hall from the elevator, as well as the greenroom. All major woodworking tools with modern dust collection available, limited welding is also available.

Male dressing room: 29’-5” X 14’-3” with 16 makeup stations.

Female dressing room: 29’-5” X 13’-8” with 16 makeup stations
