How does a numbing mishmash of a movie like this get made? Bob Thomas. Susan Stark. The result is Get Carter for dummies, the biggest ones being those who pay to see it. It's also an incoherent, irredeemable mess. Mark Caro. Stallone is so artificial, tanned and leathery you could replace his mouth with a zipper and sell him as a pocketbook. Desson Thomson. Maybe it's all the rain and leaden skies, but instead of conjuring up the rueful mood it's after, the film mostly just plays dark, wet, and heavy. Jay Carr. A truly rotten remake of Michael Caine's classic UK gangster pic. Leigh Paatsch. Bob Grimm. Stylized visuals add some spice, but they cannot overcome the formulaic and obvious screenplay, which is of no help to a film that is structured as a mystery. Michael Dequina. But it also brings the news that I have accepted CT a position as Senior Advisor to the Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton. I believe deeply in public service, but it is difficult all the same to leave this special place. I can’t say enough good things about the Library and HE DIRE the friends who sustain it—about all of you, in other words. I have been T grateful for the chance to get to know you these past six years. We have come a long way, seeing the plan for a residential house to completion, raising $1.5 million for the Parker Curatorship of Maps and $1 million for the Hodson Trust Fellowship, launching the Watts Program in the ER FROM History of the Book, starting a publishing series with Oxford University TT E Press, and taking a strong leadership role in digital scholarship. Since we L started putting the collection online, in a way consistent with the JCB’s traditional emphasis on quality, we have seen extraordinary evidence of 2012-13 Board of Governors what this Library means to the world.     ABSTRACT Stereotypes of Asians and Asian Americans in the U.S. Media: Appearance, Disappearance, and Assimilation Yueqin Yang, M.A. Mentor: Douglas R. Ferdon, Jr., Ph.D. This thesis commits to highlighting major stereotypes concerning Asians and Asian Americans found in the U.S. media, the “Yellow Peril,” the perpetual foreigner, the model minority, and problematic representations of gender and sexuality. In the U.S. media, Asians and Asian Americans are greatly underrepresented. Acting roles that are granted to them in television series, films, and shows usually consist of stereotyped characters. It is unacceptable to socialize such stereotypes, for the media play a significant role of education and social networking which help people understand themselves and their relation with others. Within the limited pages of the thesis, I devote to exploring such labels as the “Yellow Peril,” perpetual foreigner, the model minority, the emasculated Asian male and the hyper-sexualized Asian female in the U.S. media. Herrmann, ICR/International Communications Research June 13, 2002 After "ER" Smallpox Episode, Fewer "ER" Viewers Report They Would Go to Emergency Room If They Had Symptoms of the Disease Viewers More Likely to Know About the Importance of Smallpox Vaccination For Immediate Release: Thursday, June 13, 2002 BOSTON, MA – Regular "ER" viewers who saw or knew about that television show's May 16, 2002, smallpox episode were less likely to say that they would go to a hospital emergency room if they had symptoms of what they thought was smallpox than were regular "ER" viewers questioned before the show. In a survey by the Harvard School of Public Health and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, 71% of the 261 regular "ER" viewers interviewed during the week before the episode said they would go to a hospital emergency room. A separate HSPH/RWJF survey conducted after the episode found that a significantly smaller proportion (59%) of the 146 regular "ER" viewers who had seen the episode, or had heard, read, or talked about it, would go to an emergency in this circumstance. This difference may reflect the pandemonium that broke out in the fictional emergency room when the suspected smallpox cases were first seen. Regular "ER" viewers who saw or knew about the smallpox episode were also less likely (19% to 30%) than regular "ER" viewers interviewed before the show to believe that their local hospital emergency room was very prepared to diagnose and treat smallpox.

    SONOMA VALLEY HOSPITAL GATEWAY TO HEALTHCARE 2014 ANNUAL REPORT SONOMA VALLEY HEALTH CARE DISTRICT Board of Directors 2014 Peter Hohorst Jane Hirsch Sharon Nevins Bill Boerum Kevin Carruth LETTER FROM THE BOARD CHAIR A YEAR OF GREAT PROGRESS Looking back on the past year, I am impressed with the many accomplishments our hospital has to report. While it was a challenging year financially, as it was for most Hospitals, under Kelly Mather’s leadership Sonoma Valley Hospital made excellent progress in a number of critical areas. The Hospital delivered a modern Emergency Department and Surgery Center, as prom- ised, and completed extensive renovations to much of the existing facility. The Hospital adapted quickly and strategically to the many changes underway in health care today, from Medicare reimbursement to the Affordable Care Act, and did so while rebalancing its cost structure to align with continuing downward pressures on reimbursement. In the process, the quality of patient care continued to improve and our quality scores are among the highest in the country. We are now recognized as one of the safest hospitals in the nation. Looking ahead to the new year, we have good reason for optimism. Hospital administra- tion and staff are well prepared to address even more government-imposed changes. Also, there is every indication we will see revenue continue to grow, as it has over the past Sharon Nevins four years. With all of this, our Hospital has demonstrated continuing commitment to work with community partners to realize its mission to restore, maintain and improve the health of everyone in the District.
