They’ve moved into a house in Aubin Grove, where the local school’s uniform is fitting. “Kyla has started kindy there and she loves it because they have a purple uniform, so the first thing she thought was Fremantle,” Pearce says. Between being overlooked at two national drafts and his milestone game in Launceston against Hawthorn, the midfielder had a long recovery from a broken leg in 2010. He played the last eight games of 2011, every game in 2012, and he has not missed a game so far this season. Before his 50th, Barlow told fremantlefc.com.au he had doubted getting to one AFL game when he was playing local footy and missing out on being drafted. “Once I got into the system, I just knew I’d leave no stone unturned to give myself the best opportunity to play AFL football and debut,” he said.

Any game I’ve played since making my debut, I see as a bonus.

Unfortunately, Barlow’s milestone game ended up in a loss to the Hawks, but that did not diminish the dedication and perseverance he has displayed up to this point of his career.
