I AM JESUS I AM THE TRUE VINE WEEK OF SUNDAY, MAY 31 Small Talk When it comes to gardening which phrase describes you best: a) I’ve got a green thumb, b) I water plants around the house, or c) I’ve got no business trying to grow anything. Bible Talk: Review John 15:1-11 Jesus said, “I am the true vine.” How does this compare with the vine mentioned in Isaiah 5:1-7. If Jesus is the vine, who are the branches: a) only the people of Israel, b) only the disciples, or c) all believers. What role did Jesus attribute to God the Father? What happens to the branches that remain con- nected to the vine? What would be the “fruit” or the evidence of faith in the believer’s life? Real Talk Jesus was hours away from being arrested, falsely accused, and crucified on the cross when He declared to the disciples, “I am the true vine.” Why do you think Jesus chose to share this “I am” statement when He did? God’s role is lifting and pruning the branches so that the branches bear more fruit. Describe a time you have been either lifted up by God or pruned by God. There are two parts to spiritual growth, God’s part and my part. What actions did Jesus say fall under our responsibility? Which is easier for you? To remain in Christ we must add activities that stir our hearts for the things of God and we must cut o! activities that erode our love for God. What stirs your heart for more of God? What do you need to cut o! that is keeping you from God? Walk the Talk Read John 15:11. Some Christians know they are supposed to be growing, but they do see any fruit in their lives. Based on this lesson, what advice would you give them?.
