Persisted: An Untold Story is a brand new book by the wonderful and prolific children's book writer Rabbi Sandy Eisenberg Sasso. Few people know (but now lots more will) that Regina Jonas was the first ordained woman rabbi. She was ordained in 1935 in Berlin, Ger- many, and this is her story. Sasso herself was the first Reconstructionist woman rabbi (1974); she was preceeded by Sally Preisand, the first Reform woman rabbi (1972). I read this story to our 1st graders recently and we had a discussion about the differences among people who are the "firsts" at something, people who do important things, and people who are famous. , , !
