In McMahon’s fi rst season with the Racers in 2011-12, he was part of an amazing run that saw the Racers go 31-2, gain a national top-10 ranking and No. 6 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Racers won a game in the NCAA’s and were the fi nal undefeated team in the nation at 23-0.

McMahon was involved with the Racers’ 2013-14 season when they won the CollegeInsider Tournament championship and fi nished 23-11.

In his fi ve seasons at MSU, McMahon has coached an impressive group of All-Ohio Valley Conference performers including Isaiah Canaan, Donte Poole, Ivan Aska, Ed Daniel, Jarvis Williams, Cameron Payne and Jeffery Moss. Canaan and Payne were OVC Player of the Year selections. At Appalachian State, McMahon coached MVP Donald Sims as well as All-Conference picks Jeremy Clayton and D.J. Thompson. James Kane Assistant Coach 6th Season at MSU The 2016-17 season for assistant coach James Kane marks his sixth with the Murray State men’s AABOUTBOUT JAMESJAMES KANEKANE basketball program.

Birthdate: December 17, 1982 Kane is excellent in many areas of basketball including technology as he directs the video Hometown: Oakland Park, Fla. efforts for the Racers. He is also heavily involved in game planning, player development, Education: Florida (2005) recruiting and summer camps. Degree: Sport Management High School: Northeast He spent his fi rst four seasons with MSU as assistant to Steve Prohm (now at Iowa State) and last season for Matt McMahon. Kane and McMahon came into the Racer program as assistants in 2011.

Before Murray State, Kane was Alabama’s video coordinator from 2009-11 and served in the same role for two seasons at VCU, all under Head Coach Anthony Grant.

Kane has been part of 121 wins with the Racers. He was part of MSU’s 31-2 campaign in 2011-12 in which the Racers were ranked for 13 weeks and were in the top-10 for the fi rst time in school history. MSU was the only undefeated NCAA D-I road team and was the fi nal undefeated team at 23-0. The Racers were seeded No. 6 in the NCAA Tournament and posted the program’s third win by defeating Colorado State. The Racers set a school and Ohio Valley Conference record with 31 wins.

In 2013-14, Kane was part of the Racer program that was 23-11 and won the CollegeInsider Tournament championship. In 2014-15, the Racers won 25 straight games and became the fi rst in school history and only the second all-time to go undefeated in the Ohio Valley Conference at 16-0. MSU won the OVC regular season title and a pair of games in the National Invitational Tournament and fi nished 29-6.

Kane was part of the program at VCU where he helped the Rams to back-to-back Colonial Athletic Association championships in the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons. Kane was graduate assistant at VCU in the 2006-07 season where he was part of the effort that saw VCU make the NCAA Tournament and upset Duke in the fi rst round.

Prior to getting into the college game, Kane spent the 2005-06 season as an intern for the NBA’s Charlotte Bobcats in basketball operations and scouting analysis.

A native of Oakland Park, Fla., Kane graduated in 2005 from the University of Florida as a merit scholar with a degree in sport management, and a minor in business administration.

Shane Nichols Assistant Coach 2nd Season at MSU Shane Nichols is in his second season as assistant coach with the Murray State Racers in AABOUTBOUT SHANESHANE NICHOLSNICHOLS 2016-17. Birthdate: Feb. 16, 1984 Nichols joined to Murray State after assisting at Hofstra for coach Joe Mihalich for two Hometown: Radford, Va. seasons from 2013-15. He also assisted Mihalich in the 2012-13 season at Niagara. He also Education: Wofford served as an assistant under at Wofford Degree: Sociology High School: Radford Prior to his move to Niagara, Nichols served as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Wofford, Family: Brother-Darris where the Terriers advanced to the 2011 NCAA Tournament.

Nichols quickly established himself as an outstanding recruiter and developer of talent in the college ranks. He started with an impressive showing as a player and has taken that knowledge and has become a valuable part to the Racers in teaching the game to the student-athletes he coaches.

Nichols earned a degree in sociology from Wofford in 2008 where he was a three-year starter.

As a player at Wofford, Nichols scored 1,482 points in his career and was a multiple All- Southern Conference selection.

Tim Kaine Assistant Coach 2nd Season at MSU Tim Kaine (pronounced cane) begins his second season with the Racers as an assistant coach AABOUTBOUT TIMTIM KAINEKAINE in 2016-17. Birthdate: Dec. 6, 1977 He joined the Murray State program after serving as an assistant in the 2014-15 season at Hometown: Oak Ridge, Tenn. Georgia Southern. Education: Winthrop & Austin Peay Degree: Sport Management 2002 Kaine has carved out a career in college basketball which includes six seasons at Florida Health & Performance 2003 Atlantic. Prior to his time at Florida Atlantic, Kaine coached at Winthrop, Austin Peay, High School: Oak Ridge Newberry College and Guilford College. Family: Wife: Jenny Kaine (Ashworth) Daughters: Tory (2), Avery (1) He Kaine brings 13 years of college experience to Murray State and is an important asset to the Racer team. He is well known and respected and has served at every level of the game. Kaine learned a lot about the game from Coach Mark Byington at Georgia Southern and Coach Mike Jarvis at FAU.

Kaine graduated from Winthrop in 2002 with a degree in sports management and then earned a master’s degree in sport management from Austin Peay in 2003.

Before playing at Winthrop, Kaine played at UT Martin where he played for Racer coaching legend Cal Luther.

Kaine, a native of Oak Ridge, Tenn., is married to Jenny Kaine (Ashworth) and the couple has two children, Tory (3) and new born Avery.
