61st NGALA Conference Supports Our Troops By SPC Knsti L. Moon 241st PAD Staff

The National Guard Association of Louisiana held its 61st annual conven- tion the weekend of April 26, 1991 in Alexandria, La. 'Until they all come home' was the theme for the Friday night social held at the Bentley Hotel as members, friends, and spouses arrived decked in red, white and blue garb in support of our troops. This years's con- vention, originally scheduled to be held in Lafayette was to be hosted by the Louisiana Brigade. When the Brigade was activated the covention was relocated with only a few months left for planning. Elements of the Brigade were able to attend the conference, however, as they were granted passes from their active duty assignments at Fort Polk. Col. Edmund Giering III passed the gavel to Col. Lester Schmidt who will serve as president for 1991-92. By default. Col. Fred Palmer was named president-elect. Since hundreds of Association members were still on active duty and unable to attend, results from absentee ballots are being withheld un- til 60 days after the Conference Lt. Col.
