Important general information applying to all games
The 2013 fixtures have been created in accordance with agreement reached at the 2012 SMJCL AGM. The following paragraphs are quoted directly from the minutes of that meeting: a) A discussion the effects of the protracted period of school exams on the League’s competitions resulted in the following decisions: i) The 2013 season will start on Friday, 26th April. ii) There will be a three-week break for the U18s competitions only. This break will start one week before half-term iii) Competitions will extend into August if necessary. iv) In an attempt to avoid late season fixture congestion, the initial rounds of Cup competitions will be interspersed with the League games and played on the usual day/time for an age group. This action may not be feasible with every age group because of numbers etc. b) Members concerns regarding the difficulties in putting out a competitive U18s team were discussed in detail. There was agreement that exams were a primary cause of problems but that family holidays and half term and holidays taken by players, immediately following the end of exams, also contributed to difficulties. It was agreed that: i) There would be a half-term break (see above) but that the overall format of the U18s league and cup competitions would remain as in 2012. ii) In order both to balance the contest between bat and ball and to increase participation, a batsman would retire out when their total reached 50 runs in an U18s innings.

All Under 9s games are played on a “week commencing” basis. No league table will be kept for the friendly games in league format but the Cup competition is for a trophy. The Cup semi-finals and finals overlap with the league friendly games so as to finish the formal season before school summer holidays.

In order to reduce the number of fixtures for the twenty teams competing in the 2013 U11s League competition, the division has been split into two zones of ten teams each. Each team will play an initial nine games against the other teams in its zone, either at home or away. (The games have been spread over 10 weeks because of ground availability issues arising from the Under 15s League playing at the same time.) Points from each of the two zones will contribute to the same league table. In order to provide an acceptable number of fixtures in the weeks available for the seventeen teams competing in the 2013 U18s league competition, the division has been split into three zones, two of six teams and one of five teams. Each team will play an initial five or four games against the other teams in its zone, either at home or away. Note that, as agreed at the 2012 AGM, there is a three week break in the League competition around summer half term. Owing to the exceptional, and odd, number of entries, Average Points rather than actual points from each of the three zones will contribute to the same league table. On 10th July, the Fixtures Secretary will allocate teams, according to their position in the league table after all the zonal matches have been completed, to play further games as follows:

There are nineteen teams competing in the U18s Cup and the rounds and semi-finals will be played in May, June and July (see below). The U18s Cup Final will be held at Urmston CC on Sunday, 1st September 2013 with a reserve date of 8th September.
