Central Connecticut State played three Northeast Conference games over the week, starting a five games in 10 days stretch with a 62-54 overtime win at Wagner (1/7)... With the victory, head coach Beryl Piper celebrated her birthday a day early… It was the first-year head coach's first win in NEC play... The win was also the first overtime victory for the Blue Devils since a 69-65 defeat of Arizona in the championship game of the 2005 Great Alaska Shootout… Freshman Alexzandria Dowdy (New Haven, CT/Hillhouse) paced Central Connecticut with a career-best 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting to go with five rebounds... Sophomore Danica Covington (White Plains, NY/ White Plains) added eight points and 17 rebounds, becoming the first player not named Gabriella Guegbelet to grab 17 or more rebounds since Tajuana Sands had a school record 21 on March 1, 1987... Junior Jhanay Harris (New Rochelle, NY/Ursuline), meanwhile, had 14 points and freshman Kerrianne Dugan (Waterford, CT/Waterford) scored nine points and grabbed seven rebounds… Following the win, the Blue Devils returned home to begin a four-game stretch at Detrick Gymnasium... NEC preseason favorite Long Island knocked off the Blue Devils, 72-55 (1/10)… Dugan and sophomore P.J. Wade (Franklin County, VA/Franklin County) each had double-doubles in the loss... It was the first time two Blue Devils had double-doubles in the same game since Guegbelet (22p/10r) and Katherine Kelsey (13p/15r) did it in Detrick Gymnasium last season versus LIU… CCSU dropped its second straight two days later, losing 71-56 versus Mount St. Mary's (1/12)... Dugan scored a career-high 26 points... It was the largest point total by a CCSU freshman in over 20 years - Racquel Bailey had 27 versus Brooklyn College on Jan. 6, 1988… Dugan now leads the Blue Devils in scoring, averaging 9.6 points per game… She also is tops on the team in assists (37) and steals (28) and ranks first among NEC freshman in scoring and steals… The 5-1 Dowdy added 11.0 points and 5.3 rebounds over the three Central Connecticut games.. At 5-1 tall, Dowdy is the smallest player on any NEC roster… She is also one of only five players at that height to appear in a NCAA Division I game this season... Only Marshall's Tania Walters (5-0) is shorter in all of Division I. Fairleigh Dickinson dropped its final non-conference contest of the season, 66-59 at Lafayette, but bounced back in a big way to down St. Francis (NY), 65-29, in a league affair... Senior center Mercedez Walker (Stratford, CT/Bunnell) and freshman guard Jasmyra Saunders (Trenton, NJ/Trenton Catholic) were key players in the bounce-back victory... Walker hauled down a career-best 16 rebounds, while Saunders went for a career-best - and game-high - 17 points in her first collegiate start... The contest, a 36-point win, marked the program's largest margin of victory at home since last season's 67-30 triumph over Wagner (1/6/07)... Senior forward Jennifer Walkling (Westminster, MD/Westminster), who registered 12 points and eight boards, against SFNY, is now 27 points shy of 1,000 for her career... Head coach Peter Cinella is also nearing a milestone, now standing three shy of 300 for his career... Prior to his arrival at FDU, Cinella amassed 291 wins in 14 seasons at the helm of D-II American International.

Long Island saw its nine-game winning streak come to an end in a unique fashion as Sacred Heart used a late-second shot to deal the Blackbirds a 66-64 loss (1/7)… The shot, a layup by Stephanie Ryan with 10 seconds left, came after Long Island called a timeout when the Blackbirds had none remaining... With the scored tied at 64-64, LIU was attempting to inbound the ball under the Sacred Heart basket and called a timeout when no one was open... With no one open, she signaled the referee for a timeout that did not exist... The Pioneers' Ryan went to the line with a chance to put her team ahead, but missed both technical free throw attempts... Sacred Heart got the ball under its own basket and Ryan came off a screen for what proved to be the game-winning layup... Sophomore Valerie Nainima (Suva, Fiji/St. Joseph's Secondary) scored a game-high 25 points in the loss... The nine-game streak stands as the second-longest in program history, following last season's 13-gamer... Nainima helped get the Blackbirds back on track with a 72-55 win at Central Connecticut State (1/10)... The 5-foot-5 Fijian guard erupted for 32 points, tying a career-high... Nainima made a personal best eight treys and tied a career high with 10 field goals… Her 23 field goal attempts and 14 tries from deep also set personal records… Senior Anna Dziadkowiec (Krakow, Poland) added a career- high 15 points in her second career start.

Monmouth dropped a pair of Northeast Conference tilts this past week, 82-65 to Robert Morris (1/7) and 66-62 to Quinnipiac (1/12)… Junior forward Jennifer Bender (Staten Island, NY/Staten Island Tech) had a stellar week for the Hawks, tallying a season-high 21 points and a career-high 12 rebounds against the Colonials and adding another 18 points and seven rebounds against the Bobcats... Bender shot 58.3 percent (14-of-24) from the floor during the week... Against the Bobcats, MU staged a furious second half rally after trailing by 15 with eight minutes to go... The Hawks held a 62-60 lead after a Bender jump hook, but could hang on and fell to Quinnipiac, who is still unbeaten in league play… Nine different Hawks scored against Quinnipiac, with LaKia Barber (Clinton, MD/Gywnn Park) joining Bender in double figures with 13 points... Barber started for the injured Rachel Ferdinand (Califon, NJ/Voorhees), who will miss 2-3 weeks with shin splints. Mount St. Mary's went 1-1 this week after falling 66-58 at St. Francis (N.Y.) (1/7) and then downing Central Connecticut State 71-56 (1/12)... The 71 points were a season high for the Mount after not tallying more than 59 points in the first 15 contests... The Mountaineers have recorded all four of their wins on the road this season and are 4-4 overall away from Emmitsburg... Head coach Bryan Whitten has seen his team defeat Fairleigh Dickinson and Central Connecticut State, both of whom also have new head coaches… Senior F Dominique Mazzuchi (Spring- field, VA/The Patterson School [N.C.]) notched a career-high 30 points, three steals and three blocks against the Blue Devils after recording 11 points against SFNY... It marked the first 20-point performance by the senior since she posted 25 points at Quinnipiac (1/3/07)... Mazzuchi moved into fourth place on the program's made three-pointer list with 99... Senior G Tiffany Green (Arlington, VA/Washington- Lee) recorded 10 points, five assists, and three steals against Central Connecticut State... The senior has moved into 20th place on the program's all-time career points list (1,066), eighth in career assists (322), and needs two thefts to crack the Top-10 for career steals... Freshman F Mary Dunn (Whippany, NJ/Morris Catholic) recorded her second-straight double-double with 13 points and a career-high 15 rebounds against the Terriers, marking the first time a Mount player had consecutive contests with double-doubles since LaToya Butler did so during the 2005-06 season... The freshman then tallied seven points and 12 rebounds against Central Connecticut State… Freshman G Lauren Howell (Quinton, NJ/Sacred Heart) notched a career-high 22 points against St. Francis (NY)… the freshman has drained 27 baskets from behind the arc this season, six away from establishing a new program record for made 3's by a freshman… The Mount returns to action at Quinnipiac (1/14) before coming home to face Sacred Heart (1/19).

Quinnipiac moved to a perfect 4-0 in league play with wins over Saint Francis (PA) and Monmouth… Senior forward Monique Lee (Lynn, MA/Lynn Classical) had 19 points and six rebounds to lead Quinnipiac to an 11-point triumph over the Red Flash (1/7)… Junior Kathleen Neyens (Jaffrey, NH/Conant) scored a season-high 11 points for the Bobcats off the bench... Later in the week, the Bobcats held off Monmouth's upset bid thanks to junior guard Erin Kerner's (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep) stellar performance from the charity stripe… Kerner, a preseason all-league selection, scored 13 of her 15 points at the free throw line... Quinnipiac shot 87.1 percent (27-31) from the free throw line as a team… The Bobcats hit seven out of eight freebies in the final two minutes to secure the victory... Prior to tipping off against Sacred Heart, Robert Morris accepted an invitation to the 2008 Preseason Women's National Invitation Tournament which begins on November 14... They are the first NEC team to participate in the event since Mount St. Mary's in 2000... Junior guard Sade Logan (Knoxville, TN/Chattanooga State) had 28 points in each game and had a season-best four blocks against Sacred Heart... She is averaging 29.0 points over the team's last three games... Senior forward Chinata Nesbit (Washington, DC/Chipola JC) recorded her league-leading sixth double-double of the season with 16 points and a season-best 14 rebounds against Sacred Heart... Junior point guard Kendra Williams (Bronx, NY/Mount St. Ursula) had nine assists against Monmouth, tying her career-high as she collected nine helpers for the second straight home game... Of the Colonials nine losses this season, five have come by five points or less and all but one have been by less than nine points... The Pioneers' best start was a 9-0 run during the 2005-06 campaign… The Pioneers have used five different starting lineups this season, with Kaitlin Sowinski (Hopkinton, RI/Tabor Academy), Stephanie Ryan (Coram, NY/Newfield), Alisa Apo (Freehold, NJ/SJV), Khalia Cain (Manchester, CT/Manchester) and Maggie Cosgrove (Andover, MA/Andover) starting the last six… Since installing this latest lineup, the Pioneer starters have produced no less then 90 percent of the team's scoring in those games… Sowinski extended her streak of games in double-figure scoring efforts to 16… Ryan hit double digits for the ninth-straight game in the victory over LIU (1/7) LIU, but the junior saw her streak snapped at Robert Morris (1/13)... Sowinski has led SHU in scoring during 10 of the 16 games this season while Ryan has been the top-scorer in four games… The duo of Sowinski and Ryan posted matching double doubles against LIU, the third time this season they have accomplished the feat in the same game… Ryan led SHU with 22 points and 12 rebounds while Sowinski battled her way to 11 points but pulled down a career-high 13 rebounds… On the year, both have five double doubles to their credit… Sowinski is among the nation's leaders in blocked shots with 57 on the year... The junior ranks 4th nationally averaging 3.7 per game... Sowinski has five games this season with five or more blocks. St. Francis (NY) split a pair of NEC contests last week, defeating Mount St. Mary's (1/7), 66-58, and falling at Fairleigh Dickinson (1/12), 65- 29... The Terriers defeated the Mount for the first time ever as they were 0-36 all-time prior to the contest… The triumph was even sweeter, considering the fact that St. Francis trailed by 17 points with 12:04 remaining in the contest… The Terriers outscored the Mount 34-9 the rest of the way… Senior forward Linda Warrington (Belchertown, MA/Belchertown) scored a career-high 25 points (career-best five 3-pt field goals) and senior center Katja Bavendam (Hambergen, Germany/ Osterholz-Scharmbeck) added 22 points, 13 rebounds, and four rejections to lead the Terriers… Junior forward Deanna Petrucci (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown) chipped in with a career-high 12 boards and five assists… The Terriers road woes (1-7 record) continued at FDU (1/12) as they suffered their worst loss since a 71-30 setback versus LIU on February 16, 2006... It was also the first time that the Terriers failed to reach 30 points since December 1, 2001 (60-24 loss vs. Sacred Heart)... The only bright spot occurred with 1:11 remaining in the contest as Bavendam became the 11th player in school history to reach the 1,000 point plateau...
